The Main Line continues to get dumped on

Wicked by Sara Shepard

January 29, 2019 by Manimama Leave a Comment

The Pretty Little Liars series is marketed as Young Adult mystery, but I think that it may have been wrongly classified. Five books in, I am convinced that the only explanation for the behavior of many of the characters in the books is possession by evil spirits. Wicked is a continuation of the story begun in Pretty Little Liars. The first four books solve the mystery of the identity of ‘A’, a malevolent ghoul embodied by a superficial, text-obsessed teenage girl. Wicked is the fifth installment of this […]

A Whole lot of lying

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

Flawless by Sara Shepard

Perfect by Sara Shepard

Unbelievable by Sara Shepard

I’ve never seen this television show. My daughter got these books from a friend but hasn’t gotten around to reading them so I swiped them from her bookshelf. The first book in the series is Pretty Little Liars. It introduces the characters and plot of the following books. The story takes place in the Northwest Philadelphia suburbs and follows four high school juniors as they navigate the new school year, teenage drama, and the mysterious notes and text messages that are being sent to them from […]

A Thousand Nos

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

January 24, 2019 by Classic 4 Comments

Sometimes you read a book that you can’t believe is so bad you just keep reading it. This was one of those books. The shifting narratives don’t work, you pretty much know who did what it’s just a wait for the cops to figure it out. The only reason why I didn’t zero star this thing was the ending which made me go, huh. “The Couple Next Door” follows Anne and Marco Conti. A happily married couple (or it appears to be so) […]

Okay Thriller and Mystery

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware

January 24, 2019 by Classic 7 Comments

This wasn’t bad, and it wasn’t an exceptional thriller. Very paint by numbers after a while. I think it’s because I figured out what went on and none of the twists were a surprise. I still liked this better than the “Lying Game” though. That was not good. “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” has Harriet (known a Hal) Westaway being told that her grandmother has died, and left her something in her will. The only issue is that Hal knows that Mrs. Westaway can’t be […]

How To Stop Time by Matt Haig

January 20, 2019 by kella 1 Comment

I picked this up this afternoon as a cozy read during a snow day where work is cancelled and everyone is snowed in.   How To Stop Time is about Tom, a man who had a medical condition that causes him to age incredibly slowly. He’s not immortal, this isn’t played off as sci-fi or fantasy. He will eventually age and die, but in the meantime he is 439 years old and appears to be 41. The story takes us back and forth between present […]

I Don’t Know How Anyone Calls This Suspenseful

The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan

January 16, 2019 by Melina Leave a Comment

I guess this is another one of those books where I am apparently too picky.  It got many great reviews on Amazon and Goodreads alike with buzzwords like, “Thrilling!” “Tense” “Suspenseful!” and “Keeps You Guessing Until the End!” None of those things are true from my reading experience.  At all.  Ok, maybe it was a little tense…but not really. (To me) it was not thrilling, suspenseful nor did it keep me guessing until the end, in fact, I figured out the whole situation out […]
