I should read more Susanna Kearsley

The King's Messenger by Susanna Kearsley

March 6, 2025 by Malin Leave a Comment

StoryGraph Easy Reading Challenge 2025: All Alone – Read a stand-alone book Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for this ARC. My opinions are my own. It is 1613 and Prince Henry, James I’s eldest son and heir has tragically died. Rumours whisper that it might not have been by natural causes. Queen Anna is distraught, and King James is determined to punish the guilty. Andrew Logan is one of the king’s messengers and he’s tasked with going to Scotland to apprehend Sir David Moray, […]

Semi-Historical Fiction With a Psychic Investigator

The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley

February 9, 2020 by Tracy Leave a Comment

This was kind of an impulse buy – I just wandered around Barnes and Noble until a book cover spoke to me, and after reading the back blurb I bought it, and boy am I glad I did. The story goes back and forth in time (hence the “semi-historical fiction”) in my title. In the present, the story is narrated by Nicola Marter, a young woman of Russian descent who lives in England and works for the owner of an art gallery. She has some […]

A little bit romance, history, and ghost story

Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley

September 11, 2019 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

I have a friend who is an Outlander fanatic.  She re-reads the series every couple of years and the book associated with the tv series season before it is aired.  For the past couple of years at Christmas, I have given her Outlander calendars and one year an Outlander cook book (which she used and it has good recipes!).  Last year I wanted to introduce her to a new author.  My favorite local independent bookstore gave me a couple of recommendations but I settled on […]

…it never did any harm to walk through a new door now and then, and see where you end up.

Bellewhether by Susanna Kearsley

Happy 2019! I wanted to find a cozy historical romance/ Outlander-esque read for the holidays and this one did the trick.  This is definitely a “twinkle lights on, hot cup of tea, warm fleece blanket and PJs all day” approved title. Oh, and it’s Diana Gabaldon approved which is what put this on my radar to begin with. The novel is set in Long Island and bounces between present day and 1759. The historical plot line centers on the Wilde family amidst the French and […]

A soulmates through time romance

October 8, 2016 by Beth Ellen 1 Comment

So I love Susanna Kearsley. Like, LOVE HER, love her. She wrote The Winter Sea, which is incredible, but honestly all of her books are excellent (even if some feel a little 90’s now). They’re a blend of history, time travel, and romance, with smart, independent heroines and dreamy supportive heroes. Well researched historical fiction with strong romantic elements? Take all my money! When I love an author like this, I don’t go out and read everything they’ve written in a month. I take my […]

A beautiful and sad romantic historical fiction

January 21, 2016 by Beth Ellen 1 Comment

So I found  Susanna Kearsley a few years ago thanks to a dear friend and roommate. She loved The Winter Sea and as my reading buddy I gave it a try. In less than 24 hours I was raving to all who would listen about how fabulous and wonderful it was. And it is. If you like historical fiction with strong romantic elements go read it. Now. I’ll wait. Since then I’ve been slowly working my way through her library, but not too quickly as […]
