I will be honest with you. I would probably quit this series if it just focused on Lois. I know that sounds terrible, but hear me out. The two things I like most about this series are Lois herself (great in any incarnation, that character is), and the burgeoning relationship between Lois and her internet friend slash boyfriend (?)”SmallvilleGuy”, who yes, is Clark Kent aka the future Superman. Everything else surrounding it? I do not care about. Really, at all. I do not care about any of […]
Didn’t really see what the fuss is about
Carol Danvers, who is apparently a hot-shot pilot and one of the Avengers, lives in the crown of the Statue of Liberty (you can do that?) with her sister and niece. When the Avengers find an escape pod from a spaceship with an alien refugee inside it, they decide that Carol be the one to return the girl to her homeworld, as well as take up a more permanent presence in space as a representative for the Avengers Initiative. As she returns the girl to […]
And so I disliked a book written by Gene Luen Yang.
I’ve read all of Gene Luen Yang’s comics, so it was a no-brainer that I would be reading his version of Superman. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it. Actually, I’ve never really enjoyed a Superman comic, so this may be on me. But before we get to the actual comic, a complaint. WTF, why is the DC comics universe so messed up??? I mean, it took me an hour after reading this to determine which version of Superman I was reading, where it was in the […]
A good ending for the Reckoners.
Calamity is the third book in Brandon Sanderson’s YA series about what if superheroes were eeeeevil. If you haven’t read the first two, back away from this review slowly, ’cause I’m about to spoil the heck out of both of them. Hokay, so, now that the Reckoners know (or at least think they know) the secret to bringing back Epics from the darkness, the Reckoners have gone from being the only people killing Epics to being the only ones willing and able to help them. And […]
Goodbye, Kelly Sue. We hardly knew ye.
In case you’re curious, and too lazy to Google it, “Alis Volat Propriis” is Latin for “she flies with her own wings.” I think that’s lovely. It’s a lovely phrase, and it’s a lovely sentiment to end Kelly Sue DeConnick’s run on Captain Marvel. That said, man, I’m just not thrilled with the way this whole thing has turned out. I read Higher, Further, Faster, More earlier this year, and absolutely fell in love with it, and with Carol Danvers. Everything that has come after […]
