What Makes a Family

L is for Lawless by Sue Grafton

July 4, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Have to say that this one was pretty good though the usual suspects are not in it much (Rosie, Henry, William, etc.). We have Kinsey following someone who stole something from a neighbor/client’s home and then gets caught up with I guess you can just say are a family of not so bright thieves. Kinsey is still prepping for Rosie and William’s wedding in this one. She is asked by Henry to do a favor for the family of an old neighbor of both of […]

Solid Entry in the World of Kinsey Millhone

K is for Killer by Sue Grafton

July 4, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Sigh. I needed a comfort read and even though I have read this book many many times, I was happy to re-read it again. I have this book in hardcover so it was perfect to read as I sat by the pool on Sunday afternoon. Grafton takes Kinsey through the nightlife in Santa Teresa. She feels adrift as she investigates who could have killed Lorna Kepler. With Henry being away visiting his siblings she feels even more adrift. I liked how Grafton chose to end […]

Everything happens for a reason, but that doesn’t mean there’s a point.

C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton

This is Really Happening by Erin Chack

Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik

C is for Corpse – 3/5 Stars The third Kinsey Milhone mystery, and probably the first one that I thought was pretty good. The other two were fine, and only fine, but what was hard to discern about those was who is this narrator and what does she do, want, feel etc. This one has more personality to it and I am beginning to better understand more about her. It begins with a workout partner/guy at the gym hiring her to investigate a devastating carwreck […]

Kinsey, Still Working It

J is for Judgment by Sue Grafton

January 24, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. This was a really good one to sink your teeth into. We have Kinsey showing why she is really a good investigator and her also having to deal with changes to her professional life. I thought the writing was great as well as the flow of the book. The ending comes with a very nice gut punch too. What is great though is that some of these characters pop up in a later book. In “J is for Judgment” Kinsey is asked to investigate […]

You don’t kill someone you’re indifferent to

February 1, 2018 by AkBeagle Leave a Comment

Sue Grafton died in December of last year. I was familiar with her books from the gimmicky titles but I had never picked one up. I figured if the titles were dorky then the story would be too. After reading some of the tributes to Grafton and Kinsey Millhone, her protagonist, and decided that this would be a great book to kick off CBR10 with. Grafton’s protagonist is a private investigator in California who is, of course, a former police officer. She is cute, blonde […]

X is for xtremely dull

January 25, 2018 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

X:  The number ten. An unknown quantity. A mistake. A cross. A kiss… I had read quite a few of the alphabet books when they were first published, and I think I got to about the letter J or so when I drifted away from the series.  I remember enjoying them at the time, but my reading interests shifted onto different things.  I was saddened to hear of Sue Grafton’s recent passing, so I decided to pick up one of her more recent efforts for […]
