Oh where, oh where can my baby be?

Christine by Stephen King

April 15, 2024 by ingres77 7 Comments

It is absolutely mind-boggling, looking at Stephen King’s bibliography. Carrie (1974) Salem’s Lot (1975) The Shining (1977) Rage (1977) The Stand (1978) The Long Walk (1979) The Dead Zone (1979) Firestarter (1980) Danse Macabre (1981) Roadwork (1981) Cujo (1981) The Running Man (1982) Different Seasons (1982) The Gunslinger (1982) Christine (1983) Pet Semetary (1983) Cycle of the Werewolf (1983) 9 years. 14 novels. A nonfiction book and a collection of novellas. Almost every single one a hit, some of them are even classics. And he […]

See you later, Intermediator

Later by Stephen King

April 12, 2024 by Caesar's Wife Leave a Comment

‘Later’ is a highly acclaimed audiobook, written by Stephen King. I’m a Constant Reader, but I’ve never gone the audiobook-route for King before, so this was a new experience for me. The book was narrated by Seth Numrich, an America actor of the stage and screen. I’ve taken the time to look into this, because he did a damn fine job, in my humble opinion. Later is told through the voice of Jamie, a kid who sees dead people, and is telling us his tale […]

Bill Hodges is Back!

Finders Keepers by Stephen King

March 8, 2024 by RouletteGirl 1 Comment

Stephen King introduced us to Bill Hodges in Mr. Mercedes, where the retired detective had found himself slipping further and further into ennui, until he received a taunting letter from a person claiming to be the Mercedes killer, a madman who had driven his car into a crowd six years prior killing 8 and injuring dozens more. Finders Keepers brings us back into Bill Hodges’ life, where he works with Holly Gibney and Jerome Robinson as private investigators, mostly catching bail-jumpers. Until Jerome’s little sister […]

Present Tense, Past Perfect

11.22.63 by Stephen King

February 23, 2024 by Zirza Leave a Comment

It’s 2011, and Jake Epping is a high school English teacher in a sleepy Maryland town when his friend Al, who runs an implausibly cheap diner on the edge of town, asks him for a big favour: go back in time and stop the Kennedy assassination. You see, Al’s diner has a somewhat unusual feature in its storeroom: a portal back to 1958. After a few furtive explorations, Jake agrees to go down the rabbit hole, find Lee Harvey Oswald, and stop him before he […]

What is it about the end of the world?

The Stand by Stephen King

February 2, 2024 by Uncoolaidman Leave a Comment

Almost no event in fiction grabs me more than the collapse of society. Something about how people live when the structures of our society collapse always pulls me in. Seeing the things characters view as important or unimportant after all of the comforts of every day life start to fade away. I do not want civilization to crumble, by any means, but it always makes me wonder about what type of person I would be in that situation. Anyway, that is why I bought a […]

Revival by Stephen King

January 28, 2024 by Caesar's Wife 1 Comment

Being a faithful Constant Reader, I was surprised to come across a King novel that was unknown to me. Originally published in 2014, it fell within a brief period of my life where I didn’t read. The horror! So I picked this paperback up on Better World Books after knowing very little about it, other than it is said to have a truly epic and terrifying ending. Revival follows the life of Jamie, a kid growing up in Maine who faithfully attends the local Methodist […]
