The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King

February 22, 2019 by Classic 6 Comments

What can I say. This was fantastic from beginning to end. Reading how Roland drew Eddie, Odetta, Detta, and then Susannah was wonderful from beginning to end. King made everyone come alive and I still smile thinking of our initial ka-tet. I can’t wait until the next book. “The Drawing of the Three” follows seven hours after Roland has his palaver with the Man in Black. The last gunslinger is told that he is going to be drawing three and is warned about what is […]

The Fall of the House of Deschain

Dark Tower: The Fall of Gilead by Robin Furth

February 8, 2019 by Classic 4 Comments

Not too much to say here. We get to see Gilead before it’s fall. Constant Readers know about some of the events if you have read the other Dark Tower books. We have Roland reeling from killing his mother and Cort on his deathbed. Oh Roland. He is really a tragic figure. I know that King took inspiration from the Tales of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table when writing the Dark Tower. You just see more similarities in the comics than […]

Five stars with some qualifications for this White Whale book.

It by Stephen King

February 6, 2019 by narfna 14 Comments

Well, I did it. I did It. (I’m sure this is adding so much to the ongoing pun-based conversation surrounding this book.) I started this book on January 22nd, and finished it on January 30th. That is a long time to read a book for me, especially at the beginning of the year, when I like to get my momentum up and running with shorter, exciting books. But I’m doing the whole TBR Jar thing this year, and I pulled It out almost immediately. When […]

Mrs Cranky

Mr Mercedes by Stephen King

January 27, 2019 by tikkersweet 4 Comments

I have been in a cranky mood this week so I don’t know if it was me or this book but I AM CRANKY.  Every time his neighbor went into Jerome Feel-good Delight mode – CRANK, The ridiculously unbelievable love story shoe horned in so they could kill the woman off  to give the main character more of a reason to catch the bad guy – CRANK, all of the clunky racist dialoged from the killer – CRANK, n-word this, n-word that, n-work, n-word, n-word- CRANK, CRANK, CRANK.  The […]

The Breathing Method by Stephen King

January 24, 2019 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

This is an interesting reread for me because I have distinct memories of getting this audiobook as a kid and listening to it on a car trip. It was on audio cassette and I was horrified by it, because like some percentage of Stephen King novels, this one more or less is not supernatural, but still awful. I also distinctly thinking (and this would have been maybe 1993-94) that this book represented a much much older time period than it actually does. It takes place […]

A short little homage to Richard Matheson

Elevation by Stephen King

January 11, 2019 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

Elevation has been reviewed here at least once already, but I’ll give you a brief summary. Which will be easy, as it’s a rather brief book. “Hands on a clock, numbers on a bathroom scale, weren’t they only ways of trying to measure invisible forces that had visible effects?” Scott Carey lives in King’s well known little town of Castle Rock. He’s recently divorced, living alone with his cat, and has noticed something strange. He’s losing weight. Pretty steadily, in fact, and for no reason […]
