I’ve upped my nerd cred.

Star Wars: A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller

January 10, 2021 by Bea Pants 1 Comment

This is the first Star Wars novel that I’ve read which is surprising considering I grew up with the franchise and played the table top RPG. I can’t say I loved this book but I would definitely read another novelization if it sounded interesting. I believe I first heard of this one on a list of the quintessential Star Wars novels and I don’t particularly agree. It has issues with pacing and the plot is more complicated that it strictly needs to be, but it’s […]

The Prequel to The Force Awakens

March 19, 2016 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Continuing to work our way through the junior novelizations of the Star Wars movies. I will spare you guys the reviews of the other Star Wars themed books we’re reading (there’s Padawan Academy books, some kind of origami something or other, and a whole bunch of others). Again, there’s no sense in telling the story. If there’s anyone out there who doesn’t know it, feel free to e-mail me, and I’ll tell you the story. But, as I’ve said, the books are based on the […]

Revenge of the Sith

November 14, 2015 by Walking Widdershins 2 Comments

Still working our way through the Star Wars movie novelizations. The good news is that it’s all uphill from here. Watched the movie last night, too. What a stinkeroo, which clearly does not bode well for this book. The whole descent of Anakin Skywalker is just silly, his relationship with Padme is unrealistic and ridiculous, and poor Obi Wan Kenobi is stuck in the middle of this shit show with very little useful to do. So there’s not much to say about this book, since […]

Books I Read With My Kid

October 27, 2015 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

So my kid has been getting into Star Wars lately. We’ve been working our way through the movies, of course. And then there’s the Scholastic book sales at the school, every other month or so. And they had the boxed set of the junior novelizations of all six movies. Can’t think of anything that would make a seven-year-old boy more excited to read. We’re reading them together, but I’m doing most of it, so I claim that I can claim these books as fully read […]

Star Wars Rebels Origin Story: Yes, I watch cartoons.

August 27, 2015 by Walking Widdershins 1 Comment

I think I’m getting geekier as I get older. I caught it from my kid. He’s just getting into Star Wars (and Marvel stuff), and he came to it by way of cartoons on Disney XD. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, “Star Wars Rebels” is an animated series, which is about to start its second season. The show takes place between Episodes 3 and 4 – the Empire is in charge, the Jedi are underground, and no one is happy. On the show, there […]
