This definitely wasn’t as good as I remember it being, which is sad. But it was still good! It’s just, I remember swooning pretty hard during the scene where Luke and Mara Jade finally confess their love. I remember it being epic, and significant (both in terms of importance and length). And reading that scene again, it didn’t feel either of those things. I guess I was bringing the swoon myself last time, which makes sense. I was very practiced at doing that in the […]
Well. That Explains A Lot.
The original Star Wars trilogy is one of the cornerstones of my cultural foundation. Despite this, I never read any of the Star Wars books, nor did I have a single Star Wars toy (hippie parents, what are you gonna do?). Though I never partook in the merchandise or extended universe, Star Wars was near and dear to my heart. I was so excited when the prequels were announced and saw Phantom Menace opening weekend. I hated it. I also hated the revisions that Lucas […]
not as good as i remembered sadface
This book is still much, much, much better than a lot of the Star Wars novels I’ve read, but it’s not as good as I remember it being. Granted, my standards weren’t suuuuuper high in 2004. I was young, and very, very distracted by the whole THING of being a freshman in college. Plus, all I realllllly cared about was Luke/Mara Jade and kissing and such, and that is definitely something that this series is focused on (although most of it occurs in the second […]
Is possibly better than the second one, but can’t really tell because I skim-read it.
Never again with this series! If I ever, ever get the urge to re-read it again, somebody smack me in my face-ular area. In all seriousness, I can’t tell if this book was genuinely better than the last one or not, because I sped-read most of it, focused only on the parts that caught my attention, and skipped large chunks of it that seemed stupid or boring. Anyway, it didn’t fill me with rage. I’m not going to go into huge detail, or really any […]
This book is insultingly bad.
Ugh, this was bad. So, so, so, so bad. I can’t believe I never knew how bad this was when I read it fourteen years ago. The first one wasn’t this bad! What’s going on? I mean, this is just BAD WRITING 101. If I was teaching a How to Write Fiction class, I would use this book as the perfect example of what NOT to do. This is going to be a bit different than my normal reviewing style; I’m going to do one with […]
The first mediocre book in what turns out to be a pretty awful series.
This was the first Star Wars expanded universe book I ever read, and as mediocre as it is, it’s primarily responsible for my obsession with Star Wars (and the EU) throughout my last two years of high school. Simply by existing, it was awesome back then. There was MORE STORY after the movies. More OFFICIAL STORY. Now, though, I have higher standards. It was fun to revisit this book that I liked when I was sixteen, again, mostly because it existed, but nostalgia was really the only […]
