CBRBINGO – GETAWAY: Did I look up a bunch of hair braiding tutorials after listening to this? yes, yes i did

Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner

October 2, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC. It hasn’t affected the contents of my review. I’m seriously so torn on whether to round this one up or down. I’d written this author off after reading their first book, which didn’t work for me at all. But this premise sounded really cute and I’d seen some good-ish reviews, so I thought I’d give them another shot. And this is indeed a much better book than their first! (I still don’t want to read […]

This Girl is on FIRE

Pucking Around by Emily Rath

April 10, 2023 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

Kindle Unlimited REALLY wanted to make sure I didn’t miss Emily Rath’s Pucking Around. I’m so glad it was insistent. Pucking Around is a super spicy why choose hockey romance that is probably 150 pages too long but you don’t care because you like the characters that much and the spice is finger scorching. Rachel Price is the daughter of rock and roll royalty and has worked hard to leave all that entails in her rearview. She is a medical resident that specializes in a holistic approach to physical […]

Minor minor league hockey romance. #CBRBINGO – Sportsball

Breakaway (Scoring Chances, #1) by Avon Gale

July 6, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 3/30 This was a good time. I was really into it at the beginning, but then the tension sort of fizzled out near the middle. It had a pretty strong ending, though. I’m definitely going to check out later books in the series, because some of the summaries seem like they will be a little more angsty. This was mostly just bantery and fluffy and full of hockey stuff. I almost bumped it up to four stars, but that […]

Enjoyable sports romance.

Fumbled (Playbook, #2) by Alexa Martin

December 16, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

I liked this, but it felt a little unbalanced to me in the hero vs. the heroine. It was a fun Saturday afternoon read, but I’m not sure if I will read more from this author, as the next two books in the series have very hit or miss reviews. But this one was fun! Mostly. Poppy is a single mother to ten year old Ace. She and Ace’s father, TK, were high school sweethearts, and now TK is one of the most famous football […]

Romance Novel Class is in Session

The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams

January 5, 2020 by Jen K 9 Comments

I’m a bit of a sucker for these contemporary romance novels with the comic/drawings as covers.  I like the trend though I don’t think I would like it for historicals.  Anyway, I saw this pop up in my Goodreads stream, and since a few friends had marked as to read or rated it with 4 stars, I decided to give it a shot. This is the first in the series, and I’ve noticed often the first novel in a romance series isn’t always the strongest […]

Concussed Heroine for the Loss

Brooklynaire by Sarina Bowen

April 9, 2019 by Mrs. Julien 10 Comments

Brooklynaire was my first DNF of 2019. The story angered me enough that I  both jumped ahead and checked with a friend to see if its glaring blind spot was addressed. It wasn’t and I gave up. Long Version: Sarina Bowen is a strong romance writer whose work can be uneven and, more importantly, problematic, but I keep reading her books. The Ivy Years series is truly excellent and includes a classic novella, Blonde Date; however, the last novel (The Fifteenth Minute) is, at best, tone-deaf. Co-written with […]
