Cannonball Book Club Reads Romance Discussion Topics

February 19, 2016 by faintingviolet Leave a Comment

Book Club discussion has begun! Join us on the discussion post. We’re just over 10 days away from our March 1st Book Club conversation about The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev. I’ve just finished up reading it myself, and I definitely have some mixed feelings about the novel (I’ve posted mine already, but feel free to wait if you prefer). Below I’ve gathered a few possible discussion topics for March 1st, if you have more ideas for topics of discussion, please just leave them below […]

A Bollywood disappointment.

February 18, 2016 by narfna 20 Comments

So nobody else has written a review of this yet. I guess I’ll be the first, in advance of our book club discussion next month. I’m not going to say much in this review, because I want to save most of my thoughts for then, but as will be obvious from the title of my review, I was very disappointed in this book. And I’m definitely reconsidering reading Dev’s first book, which I’d put on my TBR previously after it was featured on NPR’s romance […]

Contemporary Romance with Forgetfulness (Mine)

July 27, 2015 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

I have read so very many historical romances set in 19th century England which is, admittedly, totally my jam. Trying to broaden my choices, and after being sent a fantastic NPR program link by a friend called Pop Culture Happy Hour: The Romance Novel Special, I was ready to expand my horizons. A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev was $2.99 on Amazon and gave me a window to a culture (Indian) different from my own in a contemporary setting. That was a good start, but […]

Little Sam Likes What She’s Having

June 17, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 7 Comments

I wanted to love this book so much. And I did kind of love it. But I also kind of hated it. A modern romance novel featuring a complicated and impossible love affair, three complicated families, and a Bollywood tie-in? Sign me up for that. Unfortunately the execution left me wanting more and not in a good way. Mili Rathod was married off in tears when she was just 4 years old to 12-year-old Virat Rathod. A few years after their marriage, Virat, his mother, […]
