This nitwit has a FLEET of guardian angels looking after her

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

August 25, 2019 by Bothari43 2 Comments

Did anybody watch Mad Dogs on Amazon Prime? Something terrible happens, and the whole cast of characters spends the rest of the show making the absolute wrongest decisions whenever they’re presented with a choice, and you spend the whole time yelling at the TV? This book felt like that. Every time Erin said “Hey, let’s do this,” I wanted to yell “NO DON’T!” It was aggravating, but in a fun ‘I couldn’t put it down because how on earth is this going to end’ way. […]

“It’s impossible to know if we were a good thing that broke somehow or a bad thing that eventually became exposed. “

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

Something in the Water got a lot of attention last year; Steadman’s debut novel was nominated for two Goodreads Choice awards and was Reese Witherspoon’s June Book Club read. I borrowed this one from the library based on these facts so I didn’t know much about the novel going in which is sometimes best with thrillers. “I notice my sudden jump in logic. From making a mistake to actively committing a crime. Just like that. I wonder if that’s how it starts with a lot of […]

The Audacity of the Rich White Lady

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

February 8, 2019 by lumenatrix Leave a Comment

Oh man. I really wanted to like this book, and I did like the first 1/4 or so. But then it just kept careening into stupider and stupider plot devices and the main character showed all the logic and self control of a baseball bat and I honestly barely finished it, even then it was just to hope against hope that it wouldn’t end the way it was so obviously going to… but no luck for me.   The book is told from the first […]

Book Goes Off Rails at 50 Percent Mark

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This book was so weird. I think it could have worked without the ending no one asked for and didn’t make a lot of sense. Especially because Steadman didn’t set it up to really work. Also going to have to say it. Erin was being an idiot. I didn’t root for her since you know what she and her husband Mark were up to was just what I called the “worst idea ever.” “Something in the Water” is told from the first person POV of […]

What would you do if you found a bag of money?

August 3, 2018 by KB Leave a Comment

A great read despite a few flaws. This book follows a couple as they go on their honeymoon and find a bag full of money. What do they do? What would you do? Turn it in or keep it for yourself?? This book follows the couple through their daily lives and challenges and how that is impacted with the discovery of the bag of money. The pros to this story for me involved a few things. Firstly, great characters being introduced into the novel (through […]
