Be a Duck and go with the flow

Slug Days Stories V03 Duck Days by Sara Leach

December 6, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Slug Days Stories V03 Duck Days might be the third in the series but is a slightly standalone story. However, it would probably be best to read the others first. Sara Leach created a modern story about a girl on the Autism spectrum. Lauren tells her story about being a third grader, her best friend Irma, learning about how friendships have many forms and what it means to be brave. The tone of the story is classic, even slightly old fashioned, but is still set […]

Stung V02 Cured by Bethany Wiggins

December 6, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Book two of the Stung series by Bethany Wiggins should be read after you’ve read book one, or some of the names, events and the overall concept will be lost. This time we see in Cured how it follows a character we had seen in book one but was not important to that story arc, the two main characters of book one, a few side characters from book one and a few new people. There are some mature themes such as an event happened to […]

Occulted by Amy Rose

December 5, 2022 by BlackRaven 4 Comments

I will start off with that I read Occulted on Edelweiss reader copy as it is due in May 2023. I also will say it ended abruptly, and I am wondering if there will be more to it in the final edition or a part two. This edition is heavily focused on the highlights of Amy Rose’s life as a young girl ending on note that could mean sequels are possible. I will now say I think Amy Rose and I would have been friends […]

Touching the Impossible

The Impossible Mountain  by David Soman

I Touched the Sun by Leah Hayes

December 1, 2022 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

The Impossible Mountain and I Touched the Sun have a slightly common theme. The main thing of each book is that of believing in yourself and trying impossible things. David Soman’s The Impossible Mountain was more fun for me. It had a more solid story and illustrations that spoke to me more strongly. That is not to say that I Touched the Sun by Leah Hayes was bad, it was just not my type of read.   I Touched the Sun is due May 2023. And […]

Bunny… I mean Buddy… Story

Bunny & Tree by Balint Zsako

November 29, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The publisher description of Bunny & Tree by Balint Zsako is around 140 words. Which is 140 more words than the book has. The cover does not even have the title on the front. And since I read it via an online reader copy from Edelweiss (due April 2023), I am not sure if it is on the spine. Of course, tht does not include the title page information. This book is a series of illustrations about a rabbit and a tree that have adventures. […]

Catwoman: Soulstealer Graphic novel by Louise Simonson

November 29, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The graphic novel adaptation of Catwoman: Soulstealer confused me at first. There are several of the Batman villains but no Batman. There are the people we know, such as Lucius Fox and Commissioner Gordan but not really “there” just “Oh yeah by the way…” And though she is a villain that we all know and love (or hate) Catwoman is the new gal in town, with Poison Ivy and Harley already established. We have Luke Fox as Batwing (yeah, I’m with Selina Kyle/Catwoman, what’s up […]
