A Lady Unlike Any Other

A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas

April 11, 2019 by Malin 1 Comment

4.5 stars I keep struggling to summarise the plot in a good way, so I’ll just let the blurb do it: With her inquisitive mind, Charlotte Holmes has never felt comfortable with the demureness expected of the fairer sex in upper class society. But even she never thought that she would become a social pariah, an outcast fending for herself on the mean streets of London.  When the city is struck by a trio of unexpected deaths and suspicion falls on her sister and her […]

Women of her class are molded to be ornaments

December 15, 2018 by Leedock Leave a Comment

At this point, I think enough Cannonballers have written rave reviews about Sherry Thomas’ “Lady Sherlock Series”.  Just read these books if the subject matter appeals to you at all. They are a treasure and I think that each one is better than the last. “The Hollow of Fear” is the third book in the series. I have to admit, again, that my Sherlock Holmes background is via Madonna’s ex husband and Benedict Cumberbatch. I, therefore, come at these books without a reference point for […]

Where are my Lady Sherlock fans?

December 3, 2018 by Debcapsfan 5 Comments

I got a little thrill this year when I told Sherry Thomas on Twitter I was so excited for this book, and she liked my status. The Hollow of Fear is the third book in the Sherry Thomas series. For those who are fans of the slow burn romance between Lord Ingram and Charlotte Holmes, there are heartbreaking and breathtaking moments between those two. If that’s all we got, I would have been satisfied. There’s also a mystery involving Lady Ingram, who suddenly turns up […]

“Into many lives a little irregularity must fall.” (CANNONBALL!! Bingo #3 & 4)

October 21, 2018 by faintingviolet 5 Comments

I had read quite a few reviews of this book, and still I don’t think I fully grasped what to expect. Back in January both yesknopemaybe and sistercoyote’s reviews of this book got me to add it to both my to read list, and found it a home on my Read Harder Challenge. My exact words were “Okay, that’s it, you all win. On the to read list it goes. I’m not even that big a Sherlock Holmes fan (hush, I know, I know.)” At […]

It was beyond evident you’d never fit readily into any man’s life…

The second of “The Lady Sherlock Series” did not disappoint. (I reviewed the first in the series here).  I come to these books with zero knowledge of  Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock. I am only familiar with the ex Mr. Madonna’s Sherlock and Benedict Cumberbatch.   Perhaps I should read  “A Study in Scarlet” for the “This Old Thing” BINGO square?  Personal edification! On the heels of solving her first murder case, Charlotte Holmes (aka Sherlock) is presented with two puzzles to solve that are even closer to home […]

.. the good Lord went to ridiculous lengths to make sure that one of the finest minds in existence was housed in a body least likely to be suspected of it.

This wasn’t on my radar at all until  CBR folks started reviewing The Lady Sherlock Series.  Thanks! I have zero knowledge of the Sherlock Holmes novels aside from how they are interpreted or reinvented by television and film. At some point, I probably should add that to my ever-growing pile of BOOKS I SHOULD READ.  For now, I can’t in any way make comparisons in this review but I have the sense that this book stands on its own merit anyway. Charlotte Holmes is not […]
