#CBR10 Bingo: Throwback Thursday – the Kate Daniels series (minus book 10)

September 11, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

#CBR10Bingo: Throwback Thursday Spoiler warning! This is my re-read of the first nine books in the Kate Daniels series, in addition to the two books books set in the same universe, Gunmetal Magic and Iron and Magic, as well as two of the more essential novellas to complete my revisit of the complex and fascinating world that Ilona Andrews have created. If you read through this review, I will assume you are familiar with the series already. If you haven’t read the books yet, but are looking for a good introduction, […]

An April Fool’s Joke come true

July 15, 2018 by Malin 3 Comments

4.5 stars While this is technically the first book in a new series, which can be read on its own, this book fits into the larger framework of the Kate Daniels universe (where this book is book 9.5 out of 10). So there’s quite a bit of back story you’re missing out on if you’ve not read the other books first. While the first book is rough, the series as a whole is my favourite paranormal/urban fantasy series, probably ever, so if you like the genre and […]

Only when I’m dancing can I feel this free

June 22, 2018 by Malin 3 Comments

Verity and Dominic have left New York, and got married in Vegas while travelling with Verity’s stuff cross-country. Verity has given up on her alter ego Valerie Pryor and her career in ballroom dancing and is fully committed to cryptozoology with her new husband and the rest of her family. Then she gets a call from the producer of “Dance or Die”, the reality show that she came runner up in a few years ago and she’s asked to return for a “former contestants” edition. […]

You’d think shapeshifters and demons and an estranged couple reuniting in a Steampunk London would be more interesting than this

December 25, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

Throughout her marriage, Poppy Lane has been lying to her beloved husband. Until very recently, he believed her to be the owner of a bookstore, when in fact she wasn’t just a member of, but the head of, a secret paranormal organisation known as the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals. Poppy’s entire life is working to ensure the existence of various supernatural beings remains unknown to mere mortals, and she had just been sworn into the Society on the day when she first met […]

A shapeshifter tale of violence & confusion over the ages

April 29, 2017 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Unfortunately, life happened, so it’s been a while since my last review. It took me an extra month to finish the last 60 pages of The Devourers! I did participate in our Cannonball Read book club discussion on time. Better late to review than never, I say. 😉  The Devourers was on several 2016 year end lists. I hadn’t read much contemporary fantasy, so was very intrigued to read it. I also love stories about shape-shifters (and most supernatural creatures). While reading the Kate Daniels’ series by Ilona Andrews, […]

As if I were no more than a possession for these two creatures to fight over.

February 19, 2017 by borisanne 12 Comments

Dear Cannonball Readers: I am so sorry. I voted for The Devourers for this Book Club Read. I thought it looked awesome. I hated it. This review is a two-star review. Because yes, I hated it, but the end was just okay. It finally picked up. Something finally happened. There was a point. The point was aggravating and boring and seriously not worth it, but it was finally there. These shapeshifters are full of some damn nonsense. You’re a superior creature, but your social rules […]
