Notorious

Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik

December 29, 2020 by thewheelbarrow Leave a Comment

This is a book I should have read much sooner than I did. I only knew RBG as the a liberal member of the Supreme Court who wrote incredible dissents and for some reason shot towards fame late in her life. This book explains why that happened and makes me wonder why it didn’t happen sooner. RBG was and absolutely incredible person and I find myself far more like her than I ever would have imagined. This book serves as an abbreviated biography of why […]

Ear Worms and Biography

June 8, 2017 by Rachie3879 Leave a Comment

Do you ever just know the moment you start paying attention to someone or something that you are a huge fan, without much information to explain why? That’s how I feel about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I am in my late 30s so I was around during her confirmation to the Supreme Court, but I was also a teenager who couldn’t have cared less about politics. To be honest all I remember about the Clinton administration is he was charming, cheated on Hillz, everyone hated him […]

No-no-Notorious

February 25, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

“For some reason, people repeatedly have asked RBG when she thought there would be enough women on the court. The question is asinine, her answer effective: ‘Where there are nine.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a champion for equal rights long before she was an Internet sensation. This biography was a lot of fun, it flavors the facts with some of the memes made of Ginsburg in the last few years. It seemed a timely read following the death of fellow Justice, Antonin Scalia, who was […]

The Ruth will set you free.

I read three sort of meh mysteries on my trip, but my plane ride home was rocked by this biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. A well-written (and funny! and interesting!) book about a fascinating (and funny! and BOLD!) woman. Every one of you needs to go read this book. “The pedestal upon which women have been placed has all too often, upon closer inspection, been revealed as a cage.” Inspired by a tumblr page (which lends a few great images to the book), Notorious RBG: The Life and […]

She’s Basically the Best

January 17, 2016 by ASKReviews 4 Comments

The estate of Notorious B.I.G. gave permission to use chapter titles inspired by his lyrics. That’s pretty fantastic. More fantastic? This book. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an impressive woman who I wish I knew more about when I was younger. She is tougher than I am, that’s for sure, and she’s spent her life quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) breaking down barriers. She writes opinions that recognize the humanity of our fellow citizens, and pens deliberate dissents that point out when the majority […]
