I am falling so far behind on reviews it’s time for another grab bag! You may look at this list and say “Wow, Tyler (not my real name), you are all over the place with genres!” To which I reply in my best Scar/Jeremy Irons voice “You have no idea.” I tend to be mercurial with my interests and obsessions and just go wherever the whim takes me. Also whatever I see that looks interesting at the library because we are blessed to have a […]

“Never quit, but sometimes do quit, ’cause you simply might not be that good at some shit.”

Yearbook by Seth Rogen

I was looking for another good audiobook and saw Yearbook by Seth Rogen on NPR’s Best Books List of 2021. I’ve found that comedians write very entertaining memoirs, and they are often even better audiobooks–especially when they read it themselves. Seth Rogan’s book was no different. Yearbook is a relatively short compilation of moments in Rogen’s life. He talks about wanting a girlfriend in eighth grade, his training for and the multiple bar mitzvahs he attended when he was thirteen, being a child stand-up comedian, moving to Los […]

Surprising

Yearbook by Seth Rogen

November 28, 2021 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Fans of Seth Rogen. Fans for humorous memoirs in general. In a nutshell: Actor, writer, and apparently former stand-up comedian (?) Worth quoting: Many things, but I listened while working out so didn’t note anything down. Why I chose it: I find Seth Rogen generally pretty funny in general, and the fact that he — and others — were doing the reading of the book sucked me in. Review: I didn’t know much about Rogen when I started listening to this book. I […]

Perfectly serviceable humorous memoir about someone who seems to have his head on straight despite ingesting a truly scary amount of drugs

Yearbook by Seth Rogen

Gateway: into one of the only non-fiction genres I read, “memoirs written by comedic writers.” This is a great one to start with, seeing as how there’s more understanding and context to Rogen’s adventures than some of the older memoirs that might not have aged 100% well. For example, I appreciate very much that Rogen prefaces some of his drug escapades with the disclaimer that he gets away with stuff because he is a white man. So ymmv but for me this book was 50% […]
