Sequel Bait

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

July 21, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo Review 3 (Birthday- V.E. Schwab 7/7) I have to admit that I had a hard time getting myself to pick up Vengeful. I don’t pre-order often, but this I had, so it’s not like it hasn’t been physically on my TBR shelf since it came out. I’m pretty sure I was just worried I wasn’t going to like it as well as I had Vicious. I really only picked it up when I did because it fit a Bingo square that was going to […]

Not exactly a sequel

September 25, 2018 by Tereasa Leave a Comment

Daniel O’Malley’s first novel, The Rook, is easily one of my favorite and satisfying books I have read, so I made sure to add Stiletto to my must-read list. I read a few early reviews, so I wasn’t surprised by the fact that Stiletto isn’t a direct sequel to The Rook. In The Rook, we meet Rook Thomas right after she lost her memory and gained her powers. We get to know Thomas as she gets to understand herself. O’Malley crafted a near perfect fantasy thriller with The Rook, […]

An epic romance sizzles during an Odyssey quest to save the realms

June 8, 2018 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Breath of Fire is the second book in Amanda Bouchet’s Kingmaker Chronicles series. This novel picks up moments after the end of book one with our heroine, Catalia Fisa, healing from deadly wounds. She has a knack for playing fast and loose with her life, much to the chagrin of her lover Griffin. Cat is the Kingmaker, she can detect lies from anyone. Possession of her is quite handy for anyone in power.  Cat’s mother, Alpha Fisa, would rather manipulate her powers to maintain her iron fist upon […]

Fools in the Northeast: Round 2

March 1, 2017 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

Richard Russo is a masterful storyteller. I always enjoy falling into one of his novels, filled with a rich cast of characters. He manages to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary, as he examines common people in small town Americana. This book is a sequel to “Nobody’s Fool” that I read back in 2011. I took a look at that review to see what I had to say about it, as a precursor to this novel. “Russo is one of my favorite authors because […]

Life After You

October 13, 2015 by Caitlin_D 6 Comments

As this is a sequel to Me Before You it goes without saying there are spoilers ahead. So stop reading this review if you haven’t read Me Before you. Are you gone now? Last call… After You picks up about two years after Will Traynor’s death. He has left enough money for Louisa to travel around Europe and buy a flat in London. He wanted her to do something with her life but her grief caused her to miss her opportunity to take the fashion […]

“All men are corrupt. The seed of the Epic is inside each one. And so, all must die…”

March 11, 2015 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

The second book in the Reckoners series. I felt that Steelheart had a really exciting opening, then was sort of…not exactly boring, but it didn’t live up to the opening. Even so, I really liked the book. Firefight was really good. I liked giving the main character something new to focus on, other than revenge. David has started to wonder if the Reckoners should be killing the Epics or if they could turn them good again. The action travels to a new city, there are […]
