“Courage isn’t knowing everything will be fine. It’s knowing everything might not be, and doing what needs to be done anyway, because someone has to.”

Sleep No More (Ocotber Daye #17) by Seanan McGuire

Where do I begin? Especially as seeing as I can’t even give a synopsis of the plot because if you haven’t read the series yet (or haven’t gotten this far), the plot of this book is just one large, glaring spoiler. The ending of this book is great(ish); the majority of the book though I want to shake Toby so hard her teeth rattle. Just shake her, and then keep shaking her, and then maybe slap her upside the head. Yes, I know it’s not […]

“I seem to have a calling for chaos, and it finds me even when I don’t go looking.”

I am getting through the reviews of the last three books at a fevered clip because if I don’t force myself to read them, I will probably just skip over them. And I have expanded too much time and energy to quit this close to the end. But buckle up reading these books, because if you thought An Artificial Night was brutal, than honey, do I have news for you. After the events of the last book, Toby and Tybalt (naively) thought their lives would […]

“If monarchs are that much against being overthrown, they shouldn’t do things that would make it seem like a good idea.”

When Sorrows Come (Toby Daye #15) by Seanan McGuire

Well, it’s finally time for those wedding bells to chime! Off to Canada for the wedding (it’s the best place to get married without causing too much of a diplomatic incident), Toby and Tybalt discover that as per usual, their lives are never easy. Because before they get to the altar, they have to stop someone from assassinating Quentin’s parents and seizing the High Kingdom. Can’t Toby go one day without having to stab someone or bleed on whatever clothing she’s wearing? I loved […]

“If I ever find a therapist who works with changelings, I’m going to send Mom the bill.”

A Killing Frost (October Daye #14) by Seanan McGuire

Toby and Tybalt are still planning on getting married someday (the stick, get on it), but while Toby keeps Tybalt waiting they do manage to get to romantic dinners in between Toby’s needing to bleed to save Faerie. He had never been more handsome. This was the man I was going to marry. This was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with, and raise my children alongside, whenever we decided it was safe enough for us to risk having […]

“As my squire, part of Quentin’s job is accompanying me when I do stupid stuff; it’s a learning experience. Most of what he’s learning is how to get blood out of his clothes, but hey, at least it’s educational.”

The Unkindest Tide (October Daye #13) by Seanan McGuire

Ah, the book where Toby should really learn to follow etiquette before opening doors. First it was Amandine, and that resulted in trauma for everyone in the household; now it’s the Luidheag, and that results in the calling in of debts. See, the Luidheag has decided it’s time for the Selkie to end and the Roane to exist again in greater numbers, and Toby is the only member of her family willing to put forth the necessary effort. The fact is (and I think it’s […]

“You lost a great deal of blood.” “I didn’t lose it,” I said. “I know exactly where it is.”

And another down. After being kicked in the teeth in the last book, Toby starts out this one in probably an even worse place. Jazz has PTSD, Tybalt is avoiding her, and neither she or May knows how to fix anything. Seriously, is this ‘gang up on Toby’ night? Can you let me know when you schedule these, so I can arrange to be somewhere else? Like, I don’t know, another Kingdom?” “Most other Kingdoms won’t let you in,” said Danny, almost reasonably. “You keep […]
