Realizing that I need to review some of these books so that I remember I actually read them this year.

The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams

Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone

December 20, 2020 by scootsa1000 5 Comments

Every year I keep a long list of the books that I read during CBR that I didn’t have a chance to review. Looking at the very long list for 2020 made me realize that if I don’t write down my thoughts (as I have for the past 11 years), I will never remember that I read any of these. Ergo, here are some smaller reviews, wrapped up in a larger review. I hope to spit a few of these out before CBR13 starts! The […]

I want to wrap myself up in this book cover and live happily ever after.

LOOK at how beautiful this book by CL Polk is. I want this pattern in pjs and sheets and a phone case. It is just so pretty. Plus, it sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it. I’ve had Whiteout on my TBR for a while and will crack it open to start off CBR13. The chocolate is delicious and I am hiding it from my kids. Thank you, Emmalita. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!!

All you’re getting from me this year is a half Cannonball, so it may as well be for a Magary book.

Point B by Drew Magary

I really want to review this book but have struggled to write anything lately. I’m such a fan of Drew and want to throw my support his way, but I just can’t make the words come out. I’m clearly not going to reach my cannonball goal this year for the first time ever. New goal: Half Cannonball! I’ve been a big fan of Drew’s for a while. I loved The Hike, I liked The Postmortal, his annual Willams Sonoma takedown is always good for a […]

“Honey, I’ve watched a lot of 90210. The parents weren’t even on the show once Brandon and Brenda went to college. This is your time – you’re supposed to going to frat parties and getting back together with Dylan.”

Fangirl, Volume 1 by Rainbow Rowell, Sam Maggs, Gabi Nam

October 29, 2020 by scootsa1000 1 Comment

Well, this was cute. Maybe it wasn’t as robust as I had hoped, but my god, it was cute. I had heard a few weeks ago that Rainbow Rowell had agreed to release a Manga version of Fangirl…and without any further details, I preordered right away. I didn’t realize it was just “Part 1” and that it would end right when I didn’t want it to. I have no idea how much longer I am going to have to wait to see Levi take Cath […]

The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood

October 3, 2020 by scootsa1000 5 Comments

In early January, I had a lot of gift cards to spend. I have my birthday, my anniversary, and Christmas in December, and I always get at least one card for my favorite bookstore, One More Page Books…and this year I think I got two or three. On the day I went in to shop, I didn’t have anything particular in mind, so I just went over to the “Staff Picks — Best of the Year” display, and picked up a few books I hadn’t […]

A swing and a miss from Oprah.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

September 19, 2020 by scootsa1000 6 Comments

I did not like this book. I remember the weird Oprah controversy from last year, but honestly, didn’t pay too much attention to it while it was going on. And then my book club chose it for the summer selection. Most people loved it — regardless of the controversial story of Jeanine Cummins — but I couldn’t really get past her whole story and as I continued reading (well, listening), I got more and more annoyed with her and the story. A quick overview of […]
