Scooby Doo, where are you Batman?

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Vol. 1 by various

Greener on the Other Side (Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures) by Matthew K. Manning and Jon Sommariva

July 31, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Like comics? Like cartoons? Like fun mashups? See below for some possible fun. So you like Batman? And you like Scooby Doo? Well, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Vol. 1 is a fun way to get your fix of both. While we have the Batman villains, the Scooby Doo humor comes into play. Various stories (with Batman, different Robins, Nightwing, Joker, Batgirl and more, some new to me, or maybe just lesser known overall) intertwin the DC universe with the Scooby Gang. There is even […]

I read two fun books

The Chilling Ice Rink Escapade by Michael Anthony Steele

Willa and Wade and the Way-Up-There by Judith Henderson

June 3, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Two books I recently read to help cleanse the palette some more (I was still working on a horror book I thought was Young Adult, but would lean a bit more adult, and therefore, more graphic , so maybe it was “new adult?” But regardless it was a lot to take and I needed “happy time” to clean my brain) and to see if one of them was good for the nephew. I picked up (as an online reader copy) Willa and Wade and the […]

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

June 6, 2020 by andtheIToldYouSos Leave a Comment

Thirteen years ago, a scrappy pack of teen detectives (and their faithful dog) solved a lake-monster mystery in a sleepy northwestern town. The guy in the monster suit would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for those meddling kids! Smash-cut to thirteen years later, and our teens are far from thriving members of society. Plagued by nightmares and hallucinations, powered by alcohol and violence, the twenty-something remnants of the Blyton Hills Detective Club are coming to a powerful realization: they caught the […]

…if It Wasn’t For You Meddling Kids…

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

February 19, 2019 by Melina 2 Comments

The show Scooby Doo holds a very special place in my heart in all of its iterations because I love it just that much. Fun fact, I saw that there was going to be a Scooby Doo/Supernatural crossover show and having watched no Supernatural at all, I watched 13 straight seasons so I could know what was going on.  The joke was on me, because I didn’t know that there were stand alone episodes and that Scoobynatural was one of them.  It’s fine, I fell […]

In Memoriam Heather North

December 21, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I finished this novel a few days ago, then I saw yesterday that Heather North, the voice of the original Daphne, had just passed away. Thus it seems that this is a perfect time to reflect upon Scooby Doo and his friends. In terms of cartoon analogies, Meddling Kids is closest to the recent Mystery Inc incarnation of the series because of the edgier character relationships and mysteries faced. In the cartoons, there are mysterious helpers some of whom turn out to be evil, and […]

Scooby-Doo Meets Nancy Drew

January 3, 2017 by Emperor Cupcake 5 Comments

Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore (Ember, 2011) reads like something written by Zane Grey after an all-night peyote bender and Veronica Mars marathon. It mashes up tropes from a half-dozen different genres–the plucky girl detective, the hot cowboy, the lost Spanish goldmine, the restless ghost–and gently pokes fun at itself for doing so. In another writer’s hands, the book could have been a disjointed mess, but Clement-Moore’s breezy, self-aware style manages to pull it all together into a mostly enjoyable read. What’s it about? During […]
