I’m not a huge movie person honestly, but I am a huge Taraji P. Henson person so of course I went and saw Hidden Figures in theatres and freaking loved it. This is not a movie review site, so I won’t go into too much detail except to say that it was magical finding out about the histories of these smart-as-fuck women and it was a very entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. I really recommend seeing the movie and then reading the […]
There’s a human being behind that brain, people
When Henry Molaison was 7 or 8 years old he collided with a bicycle and hit his head, an incident that many scientists believe was the cause of his subsequent epileptic seizures. By the time he turned 27, Henry and his parents were desperate for relief from what had become a debilitating condition, so much so that they agreed to let Dr. William Scoville, a neurosurgeon at Hartford Hospital, perform a lobotomy. This would be a new type of lobotomy that would specifically target the medial temporal lobes. While […]
How many romances have you read this year featuring glow in the dark sharks?
4.5 stars Maria Lopez runs a small niche blog where she imagines apocalyptic disaster scenarios and uses her comprehensive knowledge of science to figure out how to best try to avoid said scenarios. While it used to be just a hobby, and the blog wasn’t widely read, recently it’s getting a lot more visitors, and Maria has started getting actual job offers. She has kept her real identity closely guarded, so none of the people offering to hire her know that she’s a woman, working […]
Star Wormwood blazes and each one of you that steps out that door will be torn apart!
Stephen King and I are still in love! My introduction this year to his writing involved some seriously epic shit, with It and The Stand, and now I get to The Mist, and it’s super short, and takes place over 2 days, and doesn’t actually end? Gah. I’m not saying I’m unsatisfied; I’m actually mostly saying that I’m glad that I did this one when I did it, because now there’s a whole new King to love. The man is super prolific, so I’m delighted that […]
I read this book…when? If you haven’t already, you should too.
This is an old review, and it will probably show. What I remember about this book is really more of what I remember from the move, tbh. One thing I CAN tell you is that I was turned on to this book by my husband who recently got his Kindle and was only reading free or 99 cent books, ’cause he’s cheap. Anyway, The Martian was one of them. That’s OG, y’all. ‘Cause I can tell you right now this book ‘aint free no mo. […]
An entertaining and informative look at hoarding.
This book was completely fascinating. I know I say this a lot, but I really should have reviewed this book right after reading, because details don’t always stick around long enough for me to remember to write about them. This book in particular was chock full of so many interesting details I know it would be impossible for me to convey most of them even if I’d written this review ten seconds after finishing. And it’s been a month and a half. Randy O. Frost […]
