Rebel

I really liked Reboot, and Rebel was also really good. It’s a good conclusion to the series. You can read my full review here.

Come for the spaceship protagonist, stay for the emooootions.

Breq is smart. Breq is capable and knowledgable. Breq is thoughtful, empathetic. Breq yearns for social justice. Breq mourns for lost love. Breq loves to sing, but has a bit of a temper. Breq used to be a spaceship. Well, if we’re going to get technical, Breq was the artificial intelligence who inhabited the spaceship Justice of Toren, and also thousands of ancillary human bodies (whose previous inhabitants had, um, vacated the premises). Now she only inhabits one, and almost everyone she has ever known […]

Professional athlete of the future turns superhero

December 30, 2014 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

This is my last review of the year (and the day)! By some miracle of will power, I met my half-cannonball goal despite only starting reviews last month. Must do better next year, for realz. My final post is for Mara, a YA graphic novel set in the future where professional sports is an even bigger business. Sport competitions keep everyone distracted from the endless world war cycle of Earth. Mara is superstar volleyball player whose been training since she was 2 years old! Barely legal, she lives […]

Spies in Love

December 20, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

A Spy to Die For is the second book in the Assassins Guild series. Instead of a sequel, Kris DeLake cleverly decides to push two minor characters from the first book to the forefront in the same timeline. It’s more a take two on the events of the first book,  Assassins in Love. The set up is the same, two strangers working for rival organizations are thrust together by chance. Jack Hunter works for the Rovers, a group of rogue mercenaries who refuse to join the Guild. Skye […]

Only one Bad Wolf mention?

It’s really cute how these Doctor Who books do a pre-credits scene before the first chapter.  You can practically hear the theme song in your head.
