“The Empty Chair”: Star Trek Novelization Vangie13 cbr #36

April 21, 2014 by Vangie13 1 Comment

by Diane Duane “In memory of Deforest Kelley, James Doohan, Mark Lenard.” War has been declared between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire. A Romulan civil war seems likely. Kirk and crew assist Ael and crew in support of the rebellion, which causes Kirk’s superiors to believe he has ‘gone native.’ They begin to plan his destruction. The Romulans launch a WMD at Earth. Ael, Kirk, and crew save the day. Diane Duane is possibly my favorite Star Trek author. It […]

by Diane Duane “Life needs language to understand itself, and the more language, the better.” A direct sequel to Swordhunt, beginning only moments after Swordhunt ended. They really should have been combined into one book and trimmed down. The Romulan Colony Worlds are beginning to rebel against the treatment from the Hearth Worlds. Many in the Romulan government refuse to see the unrest and think more control will subdue it. They turn to the Klingons to terrorize the colony worlds. The Colony worlds threaten another […]

“Swordhunt”: Star Trek Novelization Vangie13 cbr #34

April 21, 2014 by Vangie13 Leave a Comment

by Diane Duane “Fvillhaih Ellannahel t’Rihannsu” ( Speaking Rihannsu is like whispering: few hard sounds.) It is two months after the events of “The Romulan Way” and Ael and the crew of Bloodwing remain in exile in Federation space with little hope of going home. The Romulan government will do whatever it takes to get back the sword Ael took with her; war with the Federation looms. The Klingons sit on the sidelines, observing. If they ally with the Romulans, it will be mutual assured […]

Space Rapunzel is a socially mal-adjusted hacker and I love her.

“When she was just a child, the witch locked her away in a tower that had neither doors nor stairs.” Guys, I can’t give out another five star rating this year. I just can’t. But I almost did with this anyway. It was THISCLOSE. I’m going with 4.5 stars for now, but I reserve the right to change my mind upon re-read. I just really really enjoyed myself while reading this, probably more than I should have. Cress, the third volume of The Lunar Chronicles, is […]

Is it wrong to dream for a dystopia?

I just found out that Wil Wheaton did the audio version of this book (which I will be getting shortly).  That in itself should tell you how awesome it is, but you could still read my review if you want.

Avalon

I really liked this new series by the author of The Nightmare Affair. It’s got a really likable main character, and themes similar to the show Firefly. You can read my review here.
