Okay, so it’s been two months since I finished this book, but I remember so clearly the feeling of finishing it and sort of being gobsmacked at how good it was. Not that it’s flashy or anything. I’m not going to claim this book will change your life, or even change the way you look at reading or anything hyperbolic like that, but it did kind of change the way I look at Star Wars books. Claudia Gray just GETS Star Wars. I read her first […]
That time Neal Stephenson murdered the planet.
No matter what you end up thinking of this book after you’re done, I think anyone who’s read it can agree that doing so is a capital ‘E’ Experience. I’ve only read one Neal Stephenson book before (Snow Crash) and I did NOT like it. So that, combined with the fact that this book both features the end of the world (which I try to avoid because it makes me a-scared) and an 800 plus page count. Surprisingly . . . I didn’t hate it. But there […]
This series is fun, but not everything I wanted it to be.
I will be honest with you. I would probably quit this series if it just focused on Lois. I know that sounds terrible, but hear me out. The two things I like most about this series are Lois herself (great in any incarnation, that character is), and the burgeoning relationship between Lois and her internet friend slash boyfriend (?)”SmallvilleGuy”, who yes, is Clark Kent aka the future Superman. Everything else surrounding it? I do not care about. Really, at all. I do not care about any of […]
Terrible half-baked review of a really good book.
I think I’ve really done this book an injustice by waiting so long to review it. (Thanks a lot, Mansfield Park!) I remember being ridiculously entertained by it, and reading it at a pretty fast pace, even for me. But I’ve forgotten most of why I found it so entertaining in the two and a half months since finishing it. This is one of those sci-fi books just waiting to break into the mainstream, because it’s written in a way that will appeal to people who […]
Starbucks is a coffee shop.
The Predator is strangely named. I’ve been sitting here for twenty minutes trying to figure out who exactly the predator is in this book, and I still don’t have a definite answer. This book is nominally about the Animorphs trying to carry out Ax’s plan of luring a Yeerk ship to the ground, stealing it, and then hightailing it back to Andalite space (where, theoretically, he can send reinforcements back to the Animorphs), but really, it’s about Marco finally committing to the mission. Until now, […]
Not what I was expecting.
Okay, help, you guys. This hasn’t been reviewed for CBR yet, and I need someone to explain it to me. I literally do not understand what is happening with this comic. I WANT to like it, and parts of it are downright amazing (the art, in particular, has this great retro 80s vibe, and the characters are typical BKV amazingness) but THE PLOT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. People were losing their minds over this, so I couldn’t believe when it I closed the first […]
