I didn’t hate it.

April 16, 2017 by Emmalita 12 Comments

Sometimes I read because I am too tired and too stressed to do anything else. In that frame of mind, a book like Sarina Bowen’s Rookie Move is perfect. We met Leo Trevi in Bowen’s all most entirely excellent Ivy Years series. He is the big brother of the unfortunate DJ, whose book is not to be mentioned. He is a nice guy, and a nice character with whom to spend 300 pages. We briefly met  Georgia in the book that shall not be named. She’s […]

Still No Recommended Reads from the Brooklyn Bruisers Series

Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen

February 7, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

Sarina Bowen burst into my romance reading life in 2015 with her Ivy Years series and my discovery happily coincided with her career taking off. This has provided me with lots of reading material. Though none of her more recent books have captured the magic of those first ones I read (Blonde Date is a perfect novella), I am continuing to buy her books; however as the prices have gone up, my interest has gone down. It’s one thing to be a $5 author, it’s […]

Good God What is This Piece of Sh*t?!

February 5, 2017 by Beth Ellen 4 Comments

It appears that 2017 is the year that I feel contrary to everyone and everything. For the most part I have enjoyed Ms. Bowen’s books. She’s written some real keepers. She has also written some garbage (side-eyeing you The Fifteenth Minute). I’ve only read one of Ms. Kennedy’s, and it was okay but not memorable. Together they have written Him, Us, and now Good Boy. Him was excellent, Us was okay, and I’m about to release some ire on Good Boy. Good Boy is the […]

Middling

This is a hard book to review.  The reading experience itself was pretty enjoyable, but I had a lot of problems with the story, so it gets a mixed review. I was pleasantly surprised by this book.  Why?  Because I had SUPER low expectations for it.  But, it’s an offshoot of the stories about my #1 favorite romance couple (from Him and Us), and it includes the scene of their wedding, so it was a given that I would have to read it.  Yes, there […]

He’ll want glitter and zoo animals at your wedding

February 2, 2017 by Emmalita 11 Comments

This is a fast, reasonably fun read that you really shouldn’t think about too hard. I do want to reassure you that the romance is between a man and a woman, not a man and a dog. Good Boy is a spin off of Him and Us, and is apparently the first in a new series about the Toronto Maple Leafs. I think one other thing we should all acknowledge, this clearly takes place in an alternate universe where the Toronto Maple Leafs are a […]

Better than the first

January 18, 2017 by Ellepkay 7 Comments

This is book 2 in the Brooklyn Bruisers series, and coming right out of the gate I enjoyed it way more than book 1. If you’re already a Sarina Bowen fan this book will not disappoint you.  If you aren’t familiar with Bowen’s work, this is actually a pretty decent one to start with.  This book stands on its own and you do not need to read the series in order. This is Patrick O’Doul’s story.  He is the Bruisers ‘enforcer’ and a veteran of […]
