Chloe, Maude and Sandra

Chloe and Maude, by Sandra Boynton

February 5, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Chloe and Maude, written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton, is a cute early reader in the line of Frog and Toad or other best friend silliness. The art of Boynton has all the feels she is known for. This is a collection of a handful of short stories that include two besties, Chloe and Maude. They do best friend things, have fun, even pretend. For the adult reader, things are oversimplified and repetitive, but this is good for the early/starting to read solo reader and/or […]

Woo Hoo! You’ll read my review!

Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great!  by Sandra Boynton

April 19, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

In early April 2023 the book birthday of a new Sandra Boynton came to be. It was for the book Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great!  With their usual humorous text and outrageously funny illustrations, the message of “you are okay no matter what happens” is loud and clear, for all the hear comes blasting out of Chickens mouth. And in fact, it is so loud it wakes the bear from their nap. Poor chicken! They made a mistake! How horrible! Or is it? with a […]

Everything okay, even the Armadillo

October 10, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I really adore Sandra Boynton’s work. Her whimsical, quirky and bright illustrations and delightfully charming text has many memories of reading to children or just experiencing it with the eyes of a child well into my adulthood. When I saw that she had a new book coming out I was overjoyed! But perhaps I was expecting too much. Perhaps I just had too high hopes for it, but when I read But Not the Armadillo it did not live up to expectations. Sadly, it just […]

“Relax, silly chickens! It’s HALLOWEEN!”

October 1, 2018 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

Halloween is the BEST holiday ever. Even better than my birthday and Christmas. And Eek! Halloween is a Sandra Boynton book, so ’nuff said. She is better than Halloween. Okay maybe I would not go that far, but I would go as far to say it might be hard to find a better combination for a Halloween book. Boynton’s funky chickens are at it again. They do not know what to do about the creepy events that are going on: “Witches, wizards, robots, and an […]
