3.5 stars I kind of feel like everyone has loved and reviewed The Hating Game already, and I’m coming in at the end like a bucket of cold water. Which isn’t completely the case, since I did like The Hating Game, but I didn’t like it as much as Act Like It, which is the other 2016 bookend for clever enemies-to-lovers romance. I don’t feel the need to do any plot recap here, so I’ll just cut the b.s. and get to bitchin’. I talked […]
Jumping on the bandwagon here.
Can I just write that I agree with everyone else, and that this is the new Act Like It? Or do I need to say more? How about, if you like (or think you might like) Contemporary Romance, that picking this one up is a no-brainer? This book is witty, filled with delicious and snarky conversation, admirably romantic, and just the right amount of steamy. I mean, jeez. This book makes a night spent sitting on a couch and holding hands while watching ER and eating […]
“He did not smile back, and somehow I feel like he’s been carrying my smile around in his breast pocket ever since.”
Earlier in the year the Cannonball Read Romance readers loved Act Like It by Lucy Parker. Parker is new on the Romance scene, and delivered a high wire act of a Contemporary. I rated it at 4.5 stars, and I might end up rounding it up to a 5 eventually, since I probably like it just as much as When a Scot Ties the Knot. When Malin, baxlala, and Beth Ellen sang the praises of The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and compared it favorably […]
A surprising amount of snuggles
So I read Act Like It earlier this year, thanks to a bajillion rave reviews, and became one of the herd proclaiming its greatness. When Malin then posted a review of The Hating Game, dubbing it the next Act Like It. Boom. Purchased. Boom. Read in about 6 hours of glee. It literally felt like I was reading a romantic comedy. I could see actors already in their roles on the big screen. And that’s okay sometimes. It was just what I needed. Lucy Hutton […]
You guys, I found our next “Act Like It”!
Edit – after getting this in audio (because I wasn’t allowed to keep hoarding Audible credits AND) because I couldn’t get the story out of my head, it’s quite clear that I have to upgrade this to five stars. I very rarely feel the need to re-read a book this soon after first reading it. It’s just so much fun. I love Lucy and Josh – they’re awesome. 4.5 stars Lucinda “Lucy” Hutton is working her dream job. Well, sort of. Ever since she was […]
Burr, you disgust me
I read The Hating Game because A) Malin said she liked it and Malin has impeccable taste and B) she compared it to Act Like It, which I absolutely adored. Honestly, I was smack dab in the middle of The Descent by Tim Johnston and just could not get into it, so as soon as I saw this recommendation, I dropped everything to read it. I’m so glad I did, it was one of those “have to finish this immediately” books but, oh, it was […]
