Not for me.

The Wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang

September 11, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

This one keeps souring in my mind the longer I’m away from it. The problem here is that I do not find stories about flighty people escaping from their responsibilities and the people counting on them–whether or not it was “their fault”–inherently interesting. In fact, I kind of hate them. Maybe other people get more kicks out of exploring their shitty unconnected left behind relationships with parental figures, but I find the whole thing unpleasant and not rewarding in any way. The one thing I […]

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang

November 28, 2020 by fablespeak Leave a Comment

If you in the mood for a light-hearted (mostly) and whimsical fantasy novel, “Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance” is worth checking out. It’s got a slightly slow pace to it, growing and expanding with each chapter. It’s got a wonderful love story in it as well. Weylen and Mary meet under no special circumstances. Lock Every Door – Violet The Bingo space reasoning for this book is obvious given the color of the cover. Lock Every Door completely kept my interest throughout; however, I would put it at the bottom of the list for Riley Sager’s books. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a creepy read in the same vein as Get Out. In fact, I’m interested to know which one came first. The plots are so similar that […]

Just a few long-leggedy beasties

February 3, 2018 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

I was 100% not in the mood for this book and probably should have put it down as soon as I realized that. The thing is, it’s hard to put down a new release library book knowing you’ll have to go to the back of the lengthy hold queue. Still, I wasn’t in the mood for something whimsical and slightly cutesy, so I didn’t enjoy Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance as much as I think I might have at a different point in time. The plots […]
