Very Short Story That I Wish Had Been Longer

Playing House by Ruby Lang

August 2, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. So this one was a very short book but I loved the characters that were introduced, Oliver Huang and  Fay Liu. I just thought that the book should have been longer since you don’t get a lot of time to see fully developed characters. We had a lot going on with both Oliver and Fay and think that it would have been a more cohesive book if we […]

Ollie and Darling vs Fay and Oliver

Playing House by Ruby Lang

May 19, 2019 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Ruby Lang is one of my favorite new (to me) authors. I have been waiting impatiently for her new book, Playing House, and was delighted to find that it was on NetGalley. I was even more delighted when it showed up in my in box. This is an honest review. Oliver Huang and Fay Liu have known each other for years, their friends know each other, and they are in the same profession – urban planning. Their acquaintance never turned romantic because Fay was in […]

Another Concussion Plot? Are You Kidding Me?

Hard Knocks by Ruby Lang

May 16, 2019 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

I feel so on trend! It’s another love story with a concussion plot point as I continue to recover from one. Acute Reactions was a well-written romance with some comeheregoaway issues in the plotting. It’s looking like a consistent issue with Ruby Lang, but it’s a minor quibble, I really enjoy her dry, funny style, and will be looking for her books. Hard Knocks has less of the vacillation issues and, from what I’ve read of the third book, Clean Breaks, it’s stronger still. Transplanted Canadian […]

A Cute Reaction Is Right

Acute Reactions by Ruby Lang

April 28, 2019 by Mrs. Julien 1 Comment

Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I’ve read a contemporary romance that featured neither so-called new adults, nor athletes? There is so much to like in Ruby Lang’s Acute Reactions that I could get past what I thought needed work; however, I would like some reassurance that the same structural problems  aren’t found in all of her books. Instead of starting out with an established medical group, allergist Petra Lale has opened her own practice right after completing her training. Ian Zamora co-owns […]

Thank You For Both The Best and Worst Date I’ve Ever Been On.

Clean Breaks by Ruby Lang

February 4, 2019 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Clean Breaks completes Ruby Lang’s Practice Perfect series and I feel like this series is going into my rereadathon rotation. Of the three, I think this one is my favorite. It feels the most comfortable. Sarah Soon is an Ob/Gyn who, prior to the book’s start, was diagnosed with melanoma. Treatment was successful and she is cancer free, but the diagnosis knocked her for a loop. While celebrating her cancer free status, she runs into her brother’s best childhood friend, Jake Li. Jake is newly divorced […]

You Never Needed to Redeem Yourself

Hard Knocks by Ruby Lang

February 3, 2019 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

After enjoying Acute Reactions so much, I quickly moved on to Hard Knocks. I enjoyed Hard Knocks so much I am now 1/3 of the way through Clean Breaks. I forced myself to stop reading and write this review. There is a lot I like about Ruby Lang. She turns a mean phrase. Her romances are both realistic and romantic. She doesn’t invent bizarre stratagems to keep her MCs apart, she uses completely relatable fears and insecurities to keep them apart and then brings them back together […]
