Ronan Farrow’s Old Bosses at NBC Probably Don’t Talk to Him Any More

Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators by Ronan Farrow

January 1, 2020 by KStar 6 Comments

I thought that Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow would be a book about Harvey Weinstein, and it is, kind of. Although he is a figure of lurking menace that skulks through the margins like a tumor, Weinstein isn’t the central antagonist. Really, Catch and Kill is a book about the complicity of self-preservation. I have a problem with finishing a lot of non-fiction books. Usually I hit page 200 and stop caring. At that point, many authors have run out of interesting things to […]

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow

December 16, 2019 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I heard about Catch and Kill (2019) by Ronan Farrow when it was first published. However, I wasn’t planning on reading it. It had all just happened so recently that I felt I already knew the story. I had my definite opinions on Harvey Weinstein. I’d listened to the audio tape with Ambra Gutierrez, and I didn’t think I’d learn much more from reading a book about it. But one day I was in my local library, and they had Catch and Kill on the “Lucky Day” shelf. I […]

Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill

December 15, 2019 by xoxoxoe Leave a Comment

Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill reads like a spy novel. The full title is Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators. And Farrow lays out quite a conspiracy. He takes the reader inside the world of investigative reporting – in his case for NBC News. Not only does NBC prove to ultimately be hostile towards allowing Farrow to tell the full story of his investigation into allegation of sexual abuse by Harvey Weinstein, but it is also a hotbed of abuse […]

War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence by Ronan Farrow

February 24, 2019 by RecurringExtra Leave a Comment

I’m really only familiar with Ronan Farrow in his current incarnation as a reporter, so I was surprised to learn that journalism was actually his second career – before that, he worked in the State Department as part of the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.   The book is a dive into the State Department and America’s unsteady history of diplomacy. While the gutting of State under the Trump administration is of course part of the narrative, we look at how […]

SO Shiny #CBRBingo

August 1, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I have two recent reads that could qualify for our So Shiny bingo category but I read Ronan Farrow’s The War of Peace first so he gets the official tag. Ronan Farrow is the former MSNBC wunderkind best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning article on Harvey Weinstein as well as his recent expose on Les Moonves. Prior to his investigative journalism career Farrow worked for the Obama administration which is where a lot of the information in this book comes from. It is hard to […]

All The Hard Times Are Coming

July 6, 2018 by buenogato 1 Comment

“Looking out at the ice-cold water all around me I can’t feel any traces of that other place” –Vampire Weekend, “Diplomat’s Son” Less than a year ago, The New Yorker published Ronan Farrow’s article “From Aggressive Overtures To Sexual Assault: Harvey Weinstein’s Accusers Tell Their Stories.” It propelled the young journalist, son of Mia Farrow, into the spotlight, which wasn’t the point; Farrow insisted that the stage belonged to the brave women who had been willing to risk their careers, and more, to tell their stories. […]
