You get a duke! And you get a duke! Everybody gets a duke!

December 29, 2016 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

After reading the horribly grim Out, I need something lighter and sweeter to wash away the depressing aftertaste. A romance would work, I thought! So I picked up Romancing the Duke from the library and settled in with it. Unfortunately, although I liked it better than Out, the content practically gave me whiplash. I found parts of it too cheesy and it gave me a serious case of vicarious embarrassment. Izzy is a spinster with a book series doppelganger. Her father published the Isolde Ophelia […]

“there appears to be a dark brown octopus attacking your head.”

I can’t believe I’m writing my 80th review for the year. We are now well passed my goal of a cannonball and a half. Because of you crazy people I have endeavored to read more authors in romance, not just more romances. This brings me to Tessa Dare and Romancing the Duke. Meet Isolde Ophelia Goodnight, impoverished 26-year-old securely on the shelf and without a means to support herself. She’s just inherited a castle (in serious disrepair) from her godfather whom she did not know […]

Romance novels on audiobook are SO MUCH FUN YOU GUYS.

August 19, 2015 by narfna 12 Comments

Good god, people. This was an impulse audio checkout from the library, and it completely consumed every minute of free time I’ve had in the twenty-four hours after I checked it out. I’ve never read a romance novel on audio before, and it was so entertaining. This particular book was very charming and swoonworthy, and I ended up loving it. I mean, I was pathological about this book. I listened to it every chance I got. At one point, I for real snuck my iPhone […]

Beauty and the Beast, (Ish).

September 15, 2014 by NTE 2 Comments

A strange bequest, perhaps the strangest castle ever, and the handsome stranger who insists that it’s his: these are the things facing Miss Isolde Goodnight at the start of Tessa Dare’s Romancing the Duke. But she is perhaps better prepared than most ordinary Society misses, for such an unusual turn of events – as the daughter of a writer famous for his tales of fancy and fantasy, most staring the younger Izzy, herself. . Armed for adventure (and short on any other actual choices), Izzy decides […]

Castles, and ermines and dukes, oh my!

February 2, 2014 by Malin 3 Comments

4.5 stars Miss Isolde Ophelia Goodnight, or Izzy, is the orphaned daughter of the author of a beloved series of adventure stories. She has barely a penny to her name, so when she is told that her recently deceased godfather has left her Gostley Castle, it seems too good to be true. Of course, her castle is a filthy ruin, currently inhabited by the scarred, bitter and extremely rude Duke of Rothbury, who’s adamant that he didn’t sell any castle, and it therefore can’t belong […]
