Minor minor league hockey romance. #CBRBINGO – Sportsball

Breakaway (Scoring Chances, #1) by Avon Gale

July 6, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 3/30 This was a good time. I was really into it at the beginning, but then the tension sort of fizzled out near the middle. It had a pretty strong ending, though. I’m definitely going to check out later books in the series, because some of the summaries seem like they will be a little more angsty. This was mostly just bantery and fluffy and full of hockey stuff. I almost bumped it up to four stars, but that […]

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo

June 26, 2021 by Dome'Loki 1 Comment

Rule of Wolves is a good conclusion to the grand story arc begun back in Shadow and Bone.  If you’ve stayed with the Grishaverse to this point, this book is a must read.  And for those who particularly like the “Six of Crows” duology, the gang gets back together for a heist! I enjoyed this book!  But I’m finding it hard to review without spoilers so here are themes within the book.  Ravka has been ramping up it’s technological marvels, adding flying machines and submersibles to […]

This whole book is SHENANIGANS and it is beautiful.

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto

June 24, 2021 by narfna 2 Comments

This was extremely fun. It was nearly a five star book for me, except that I did think it had one weak spot, but more on that in a bit. I wouldn’t quite call this a black comedy—it’s a little too lighthearted and frothy for that—but it’s definitely leaning in that direction. The plot kicks off when Meddelin Chan accidentally kills her blind date, and panicking, enlists the help of her mom (and thus her three aunties) to deal with the body. Meddy and her […]

No real reason for this three star review, just not my cuppa, I guess.

40-Love (There's Something About Marysburg, #2) by Olivia Dade

June 23, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

Sometimes you just meet a book you don’t really click with and there’s not a reason for it, it just is. I think this is one of those times! I had a perfectly fine time reading this book, but I was never compelled by it. The stakes, for me, felt too low. This was especially sad because my fellow reviewers who have read this have loved it nearly universally, and also because I loved loved loved the first book in Dade’s Marysburg series when I […]

The Friend Contract

“I am not asking a stranger, I’m asking my best friend.”

The Friend Contract by Dria Andersen

June 17, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I am always up for a best-friends-to-lovers fake relationship book. Add it that it’s between two Black shifters, one a panther and one a bear, and I was all in. Though this is the first in the Hamilton Brothers series, twin bear shifters, there’s another book that takes place before it that talks about how the panthers ended up in Florida. There was enough explanation that I was able to get the gist of what had happened, but I would probably recommend reading Chasing Savannah, about […]

Method Acting

“I’m saying I think we could take care of each other.”

Method Acting by Adele Buck

June 16, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I absolutely adored Adele Buck’s first book so I was very eager to see where the next book in the series would take us. This one doesn’t focus as much on the behind the scenes bits of acting, but it does have a delightfully steamy opposites-attract couple! Alicia is finishing up a run in Romeo & Juliet at the Folger’s in D.C. and contemplating her next steps. But what’s not on her plan is getting insulted by Colin, a STEAM lobbyist, at one of the […]
