The villain/hero swap!

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2) by Sarah J. Maas

April 25, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was compulsively readable, and it is by far the most I’ve ever enjoyed anything Sarah J. Maas has written (previously that dubious honor went to the third Throne of Glass book, which now that I come to think of it, this book is very similar to). Her writing style continues to work much better in the first person, and I was actually super impressed at how this book basically dismantles everything you thought you knew about the first book. I find it ballsy of […]

Charming

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

April 21, 2019 by Manimama Leave a Comment

Charming, adorable, sweet, romantic- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was all of those things without being cloying. The story is told in the form of letters between a variety of characters. Juliet is a writer living in London immediately after the end of World War II. She has recently embarked on a book tour to promote her collection of war-time dispatches. She is contacted by a man named Dawsey, who lives on the isle of Guernsey- he is in possession of a […]

Stella Lane is mathematically brilliant but due to her diagnosis of Asperger’s has difficulty navigating social situations. New Adult Romance- this one is so, so good

The Deal by Elle Kennedy

April 13, 2019 by ctkat1 Leave a Comment

From Amazon: Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date. All Garrett Graham has […]

“He was riding a tiger. He might as well enjoy it.”

Any Old Diamonds (Lilywhite Boys, #1) by K.J. Charles

April 10, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

I hope that my life continues to be full of K.J. Charles books that do not disappoint me. I know I’ve still got about half her back catalogue to go through, and I hope all those unread books are just as fun to read. This one is a romance, of course, but it’s also a heist novel featuring Alec, the estranged son of a duke out to make his father pay for the damage he’s caused Alec and his siblings, so Alec hires two notorious […]

Can You Keep a Secret – Not a secret, but not for me

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

April 7, 2019 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

This book is outside of my usual favorite genres (post-apocalyptic, dystopian, thriller, non-fiction, speculative fiction, and the like) but I reached out to the Facebook hive mind for pre-wedding brain candy reads and this one was recommended by one, and endorsed by many, so I threw it into my suitcase. I haven’t read “Confessions of a Shopaholic” or seen the movie as it’s not the kind of material that appeals to me, but Kinsella’s book was a nice, albeit predictable cotton candy departure for me. […]
