In which it turns out that I DO like kissing books

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

May 6, 2019 by TheShitWizard 8 Comments

Despite not really reading romance novels, I couldn’t help but notice some Cannonball discussions in which this one was mentioned a bunch of times. I’m super glad that I lurked on those threads as, although I hadn’t really been sure if romance was my flavour, it turned out that I absolutely loved Lord of Scoundrels, which was the most fun I’ve had reading this year. Jessica Trent’s brother is a nincompoop. A nincompoop who’s managing to fritter away his fortune with his high society friends, […]

A Return to Form for Eve Dallas

Connections in Death by J.D. Robb

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So, my initial thoughts of “Connections in Death” hold. However, I have to admit that I can’t give this five stars because I am now realizing it’s a bit off that Eve doesn’t get that maybe other people have different upbringings and it’s not all roses. I am happy that we get to see another side of New York though and it’s not just the rich and famous all of the time. “Connections in Death” focuses on Eve investigating when a woman she just meets […]

Sub-par Follow up to Vintage

The Curiosities by Susan Gloss

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I loved “Vintage” and gave it fours stars when I read it back in 2014 and kept my eye out to see when Susan Gloss would publish another book. Unfortunately, I found this follow-up to “Vintage” to be disappointing. This book doesn’t do a good job of linking all of the stories to each other. Artists living together in a “colony” didn’t help link things since they were all going through so many things and felt like roommates that passed in the night. It didn’t […]

Most of the Book Focused on Suspense Not the Romance

The Obsession by Nora Roberts

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not too much to say here. Roberts focuses mostly on the suspense aspect of this book and it works much better. The main reason why I gave it three stars is that I think that it would have been smart to include the POV of Naomi’s brother as well. Thank goodness though he doesn’t enter into a romance in this one. I loved how they both changed based on what happened with their parents and the paths they took. Other than that the book felt […]

The Main Character Was Too Hard to Take

Death and Other Happy Endings by Melanie Cantor

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on July 9, 2019.  Wow. This book ended up not working for me at all. Probably because the initial premise (Jennifer Cole) being diagnosed with an incurable condition giving her months to live didn’t really get focused on too much. Instead we focused on Jennifer writing letters to her ex-husband, her ex’s current wife, her ex-lover, her ex-childhood friend, and her sister. Yeah […]

Just Keep Swimming

Swimming for Sunlight by Allie Larkin

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book was released on April 23, 2019.  So “Swimming for Sunlight.” I went back and forth on this one. The main character is Katie Ellis who divorces her husband and takes her rescue dog Bark back to Florida to stay with her maternal grandmother, Nan. Katie gives up everything that she is entitled to so her husband doesn’t get joint custody of the dog. So she arrives with […]
