A tongue in cheek, genderbent historical romance.

Ridiculous! by D.L. Carter

October 13, 2020 by narfna 7 Comments

This lives up to its name, but I would also describe it as an intelligent indulgence in tropes, and it has weirdly historically accurate feel to it, despite said ridiculousness. I downloaded this for free on Kindle ages ago, I think maybe after I read a review of it on CBR somewhere? I no longer remember. Anyway, I was reading old Kindle downloads over the summer, and I finally got around to this one, and it was so enjoyable! (It’s currently on Kindle Unlimited.) Millicent […]

Can’t compete with Red, White, and Royal Blue

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

October 10, 2020 by pixifer 1 Comment

When American college student Rebecca “Bex” Porter enrolls in a semester abroad at Oxford, she finds herself living on the same floor as Prince Nicholas, grandson of Queen Eleanor of England. Bex and Nick quickly become friends, only to accidentally fall in love. But young love is difficult, especially when one is heir to the throne. Will Prince Nick and Bex get their happily ever after, or will a secret tear them apart? The Royal We started off great; the first third was fun and […]

Another Ilona Andrews book I absolutely loved. Are you surprised? (double bingo)

Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews

October 4, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars #CBR12 Bingo: Green   Spoiler warning! This is the fifth book total in the Hidden Legacy series, and the second book about Catalina Baylor. This review may spoil details from previous books in the series. If you want to start at the very beginning, the book you want is Burn for Me. If you want to start with Catalina’s books, the first book is Sapphire Flames.    It’s been about six months since the end of the last book, where Catalina Baylor made a very unfortunate, iron-clad deal with […]

CBR12 Book Bingo – Repeat

Beach Read by Emily Henry

September 30, 2020 by randirock 2 Comments

Oh, how I loved this book. It’s not an innovative story-line, but it sure does the trick! Polar opposites strike up a challenge and fall in love in the process. Swoooon! While the concept is as old as time, author Emily Henry makes it fresh with modern background details that bring the characters and setting to life. When I read a good romance, I can feel it throughout my body. The words pulse through my bones. I carry the characters with me for days after. […]

Sex lessons premise + multi-layered characters + an earnest HEA = a contemporary romance that gripped my heart

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

September 30, 2020 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

I finally read The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. I have to confess that I’m reading this loose series out of order. I reviewed The Bride Test last year, which made me cry it was so sweet. This year, I’m reviewing it for CBR12 bingo square with the “Cannonballer Says” square. Looking at the past reviews, nearly all my CBR romance peeps raved about it. And it did not disappoint! Stella Lane loves her job predicting customer behavior using complex math. In her personal life, […]

Courting with samosas and hot parking lot truck sex.

Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder

September 28, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

For the first half of this book, I was so charmed I was a hair-trigger away from giving this novella five stars. It lessened in its charm in the second half, but overall I still really liked it. The set-up here is really fun, and the tone of it reflects that fun. Pinky works at her parent’s Indian restaurant, and she has been enjoying lusting from afar one of her customers, Trucker, who is unfortunately part of a biker gang. Trucker is also lusting after […]
