Well-Hung Angels and the Anxious Investment Bankers Who Love Them

May 12, 2014 by Another Kate Leave a Comment

“Vampires, succubi, demon kings, and other bad boys of the supernatural realm get a lot of press, but where’s the love for our winged protectors from on high?” …Right here, as it turns out.  Please note: In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that I found this to be one of the more inconsistently edited works I’ve read. However, if you’re a fan of the Angels Among Us genre, or urban fantasy more generally, you’ll want to at least give it a […]

Are any of us really innocent when we get down to it?

May 11, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars This is book 24 in the In Death series. I wouldn’t recommend starting with this one, although if you’re interested in plot summaries of earlier ones, I’ve reviewed most of the previous ones on the blog. My experience is that either you really like these books, or you don’t. There seems to be very little in-between. Craig Foster is planning a history quiz for his pupils at a New York private school while having lunch, and dies horribly from ricin poisoning at his desk. The […]

It’s just so amazing, you guys. Why aren’t you ALL reading it?

April 25, 2014 by Malin 4 Comments

This trade paperback volume of Saga collects issues 13-18. It’s an ongoing series, and you really should be starting at the beginning. It’s also the best comic book/graphic novel series I’ve read in probably a decade, so if you haven’t read it, run to your nearest comics shop and come back when you’ve caught up. Also, it goes without saying that there may be spoilers here for earlier in the series. Marko’s mother has decided to join her son and his new family on their quest to find […]

“Please by my vampire wife, mmmmkay?”

April 24, 2014 by FyreHaar 2 Comments

Valerie Moyer is kidnapped and held captive in a basement with several other women. She frees herself and manages to call 911 before jumping out of a window. Anders (his first name will be addressed a little later) is an Immortal who works to contain other immortals who rick exposing themselves and all their kind by preying on humans for blood.  Anders and his team respond to Valerie’s 911 call and our romance is off to the races. This book was boring as hell. If […]

I Like You Very Much. Just As You Are

March 30, 2014 by Berry 8 Comments

Falling in love with a work of fiction or a fictional character can be a tricky business, and in many ways it resembles and reflects the experience of falling in love with a so called real person. Which is why Dustin Rowles comparing the Veronica Mars movie experience to briefly reuniting with an old lover was so apt, and also why I’m going to shamelessly steal that analogue for the purposes of writing a review for The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, the first in the […]

Women in Peril and the Lonely Lords Who Swive Them

March 29, 2014 by Another Kate 2 Comments

“Oh, to live in Grace Burrowes’ Regency England. This is a magical world where the aristocracy’s finest specimens of masculinity are, to a man, well over six feet tall, with all their hair and all their teeth. They are careful stewards of their wealth, which is considerable. Despite what the historical record might suggest, they bathe frequently, and instead of smelling of whiskey, the stables, or their own stinky sweat, they rather have about their persons the pleasing scent of bergamot or cedar. In the […]
