An uneven, anti-climactic but still thought-provoking read about teenage sexuality and friendship.

December 30, 2014 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is more like 3.5 stars for me, mostly for the ending, which just fizzled out, after a strong beginning, strong middle, even strong leading up to the end . . . but the end was a nope. Rounding up though, because I’m just magnamimous like that. The Bermudez Triangle (I refuse to ackowledge its new title)  follows Nina, Avery, and Mel, who have been best friends since they were small children. In the summer before their senior year, Nina goes away to a college […]

Honeymoon Trouble

December 29, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I came across My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon in Strand Books. It’s always nice to pick up an anthology as they tend to be easy reads. As a big fan of The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher, his story “Heorot”about a kidnapped newlywed woman from an beer festival was enough reason to buy. His story brings back Miss Gard, a mysterious supernatural who consults for the kingpin of Chicago. I always liked her, so was fun to see them momentarily join forces and learn a tiny […]

A Lone wolf finds his mate just in time for Xmas

December 28, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I have to admit the tagline from Terry Spear’s A Seal Wolf Christmas (Heart of the Wolf 12) gave me pause. “He can handle murder…but mistletoe?” Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive (or inclusive for that matter)? We are introduced (or re-introduced if you are familiar with the series) to Bjornolf and Anna rescuing a rich family in the Colombian jungle. The two werewolves have met once before on another mission. As soon as they are reunited they sense a heat between them, but these […]

Forget the past when it’s too terrible to face

December 23, 2014 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

Knocking out another VF book club review with Deerskin. Instead of aliens and greek-like gods, we read a dark fairytale about a princess named Lissar whose mother was the most beautiful queen of all the kingdoms. Her beauty so captivating that all the land including the King hardly remember the princess exists. But alas the queen cannot live forever, so she captures her beauty in a striking painting before her death. It’s almost as if she curses her daughter to live behind her shadow even after death. [MILD […]

Alien invasion love

December 23, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Collision is part one of a new alien invasion trilogy from Berinn Rae. Sienna, an ex- military brat and recent widow stumbles upon a crashed ship near her remote home. Against her better judgement, she goes inside to investigate. She discovers a super hot human-like man (except for his unnatural golden skin) unconscious on floor. Another weird guy passed out who may be dead. She drags the golden man outside just before a crazy winged alien attacks. The two creatures point weird guns at each other with […]

Spies in Love

December 20, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

A Spy to Die For is the second book in the Assassins Guild series. Instead of a sequel, Kris DeLake cleverly decides to push two minor characters from the first book to the forefront in the same timeline. It’s more a take two on the events of the first book,  Assassins in Love. The set up is the same, two strangers working for rival organizations are thrust together by chance. Jack Hunter works for the Rovers, a group of rogue mercenaries who refuse to join the Guild. Skye […]
