Read The Scandalous, Dissolute, No-Good Mr. Wright Instead

January 28, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 4 Comments

Please see title. For more information, see below. How to Catch a Wild Viscount came as part of a 99 cent novella set. The grouping includes works by Courtney Milan, Caroline Linden, and other current authors. I quite like novellas as they are a quick read and strip the story down to its bare bones, but what I just said is the only reason to read this book. It’s an early work by an author on my autobuy list, Tessa Dare, and I just wanted […]

I don’t think I have ever read a really good YA sci-fi book. Do they even exist?

January 18, 2015 by narfna 6 Comments

Ugh. I hate being disappointed in books. This one almost totally missed the mark for me. It was aggressively okay, and the coolest bits I’ve seen done better elsewhere. I knew going in this might be an off book for me, but if anything I anticipated it being more like the last book was: a fun sci-fi romance romp about starcrossed lovers in an alien environment. Well, actually, turns out that was exactly what I got, because everything about this book is echoed from the […]

Sweet though it may be, it didn’t sing.

Courtney Milan has admirably taken up the mantle not just for plucky, smart heroines, but for explicitly academic ones. Complex theory as foreplay and technical jargon as sweet nothings are part of her repertoire. It’s these details, as well as Milan’s own formidable educational achievements, that have me recommending her as gateway romance for women who think themselves above romance. (Former member of that camp here.) In addition to her superlative characterization, she also rarely stumbles on the actual romance, and when she does, often […]

An insight into Jordan.. No, not the place..

January 11, 2015 by BookNinja Leave a Comment

Sometimes I go through a period of reading kinda trashy books, and I thought Angel was going to be one of them. Angel is a young girl who gets discovered as a glamour model at the age of 17, and the story of her fairly meteoric rise to fame and love life. Angel goes from having vague desires to go into fashion design to being incredibly famous, going out with a member of a boy band and tabloids and gossip magazines watching her every move. Katie Price (aka […]

I really really wanted to love this

January 9, 2015 by BookNinja 6 Comments

This is going to be a very spoilery review – warning in advance! Kate is an incredibly work-driven but lonely woman with a slight daddy complex – she’s very conscious of his opinion. She decides to go to a golf course/resort where rich, tall Yuppies hang out, to meet her ideal guy and get married. While there, she meets Jake – who used to fit all her requirements, but has since retired from being a high-powered tax attorney, invested all his money in his brother’s […]

A Holiday Treat to Indulge a Reader…

January 4, 2015 by DragonDreamsJen 2 Comments

DragonDreamsJen’s #CBR7 Review #1   Our First Christmas by Lisa Jackson Every year, during the school break and holidays, I indulge in one good Christmas themed romance novel for sheer entertainment. This year, after finishing my B.Ed degree and the 15 week teaching internship that went along with completing the last stages, I finally had time again to read MORE books for the sheer pleasure of it and decided to sign up for a CannonBall challenge again. Our First Christmas is actually a 435 page anthology […]
