I am not so much a reader of romance, but of course I had to read this one because Madeline Martin is a wonderful person I know in actual real life and this is her first published novel! I know first-hand how hard she worked on this (really hard), and I was more than happy to read and review the pre-release. Mariel Brandon is a quick-witted English beauty who has seen more than her fair share of heartache: her parents died in the plague and she […]
Contemporary Romance, But with Huh?
I was loaned J.L. Merrow’s contemporary romance Muscling Through by my friend Katie after reading her review of the book. She really liked the story and gave it a positive appraisal. Mine will be less so. It was a quick read, which is good, and I would be delighted to read a M/M romance novel well done, but Muscling Through is not that book. Al and Larry, bearers of the two least romance-novel-sounding names of all time, meet when Al helps a very drunk and […]
I Swear, I Like Romance…Really!
I met Tillie Cole at an author signing recently. She was adorable and so fun to talk to that I actually expected to like her book as much as I liked her. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. It Ain’t Me Babe is about Mae and Styx, who saw each other across a fence when they were kids for a fleeting moment, but never forgot each other. Mae grew up in a sadistic cult. The night she is supposed to marry the cult leader she makes a […]
Roll with the Insanity, it’s Amazeballs
‘Kill Ball’ is the story of a lonely guy, Colin, who accidentally caused his mother’s death when he was a kid. All he’s ever wanted was to be held, but the increasingly isolated world he lives in has made this desire impossible. He becomes obsessed with a stripper he believes he has a special connection with. A killer is stalking the streets and seems to have his sights set on Colin’s girl. Oh yeah, and everyone rolls around in giant hamster balls. How could I […]
Note to Self: Always Trust Courtney Milan!
I admit, even though I absolutely adore everything I’ve read by Courtney Milan, I had a teeny moment of hesitation about picking up Trade Me. I’m usually not interested in contemporary romance, and “New Adult” as a genre name irrationally bugs me. I’m so glad I decided to check out the first chapter when she posted it on her website, though, because I was instantly hooked. And of course the full book was amazing too. I should never have had a doubt.
