Didn’t live up to this Janeite’s expectations.

October 10, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was such a mixed bag of a reading experience. Honestly, though, I figured it might be. I’ve read a couple of Shannon Hale’s adult novels before this, and neither of them worked for me. And the Goodreads average rating for this book is not great. But I was still hoping! Especially considering the premise. It wasn’t one of those ‘meh’ reads, either. One second I would be actively hating what was going on, irritated with the main character, the next, something adorable would happen and I […]

Not as good as book one, but still worth reading.

I am sad to say that this book was not as good for me as the first one. I still loved the characters a lot, and there were still all these great, small moments peppered throughout the book. Lara Jean’s family continues to warm my heart. Peter continues to be a huge doofus. Lara Jean is a fashion icon. Some spoilers below, so be warned. I just thought this book was a little weak. Where the first book had at the center of it the whole […]

Overall fun, but super tired of this trope. #CBRBingo

I do love Tessa Dare, first off. I need to say that right away. Also, that as usual, I’ve had a great time listening to a book of hers. They are always tongue in cheek, silly, and completely anachronistic, and sweet. BUT. There’s this one thing she does that she’s done in her last three published books, and I’ve had enough of it. This book is about Alexandre Mountbatten, who we met last book as Emma’s friend who sets rich people’s clocks to Greenwich Mean […]

I can’t be objective with this book – CBR10Bingo Throwback Thursday – Bingo!

September 25, 2018 by Dome'Loki 6 Comments

In 2001 I was an administrative assistant for the managers that oversaw the book buyers at Borders Books (may it rest in peace).  One of the buyers thought I would like Kushiel’s Dart and recommended it.  Once in my hands I couldn’t put it down, reading so fast that on subsequent readings I discovered whole paragraphs that had previously been skipped.  It was completely different from any fantasy I had read before and quickly became one of my most recommended books to anyone who I thought […]

I gave up

September 24, 2018 by Professor FluffyKitten 2 Comments

You know, when I signed up for Cannonball Read last December I had every plan of finally reading some of the reputably excellent books that are sitting in my library just waiting for me to finally read them. I also was planning to read some academic book that I should have read like five years ago (yes , I am looking at you Marshall McLuhan) and some really wonderful comics book I’ve bought over the years and have yet to read. Instead I am mostly […]

A man falls in love with a woman he’s never met because he reads her e-mails. Wait don’t go!! No, it’s charming, really I promise!!

September 12, 2018 by tillie 1 Comment

You wouldn’t think a story about an adult man creeping on two women’s private email conversation would be cute and charming, but this is a Rainbow Rowell book, so of course it is. “I know that people change. I thought … I thought we’re going to change together. I thought that’s what it meant to be in love.” Lincoln is lost in life. He’s been reeling ever since his girlfriend broke up with him first year in college. He now has several degrees and a […]
