All in the family

January 18, 2016 by PattyKates 10 Comments

Patty: Confession time. I picked this one based on one fact and one fact only: a reviewer wrote “LUVD it!” and I choked on one of the M&M’s I was eating because “LUVD”? SERIOUSLY? So I jumped on my prejudice wagon and told Katie that I felt this one was RIPE for snark and gifs. But things didn’t work out quite how I expected… Katie: Shaw, our heroine, is pretty much perfect. Smart, excellent student, wealthy, polite, kind to children and old people (actually, I […]

Two Amish dudes who just really love wood

January 17, 2016 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

Not going to lie, I totally started reading this book because with a name like A Forbidden Rumspringa, I thought it’d be hilariously over the top and I figured I’d be able to laugh about it with bookish friends later. Andrews managed to take a silly sounding premise and turn it into a well-written romance that takes its characters and their problems seriously. The story takes place in a small Amish community in northern Minnesota called Zebulon. Apparently there’s a lot of variation within Amish […]

An arranged marriage, two races who hate each other. Of this romance is born.

Radiance by Grace Draven is the book of the month for Vaginal Fantasy. I am beginning to despair over the choices made for that particular book club. It’s not that Radiance is bad exactly, it’s just a ridiculous piece of fluff that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense once you start to think about various plot elements. Brishen Khaskem is a prince of the Kai and Ildiko is a human noble woman of a neighboring kingdom. The kai and humans find each other to […]

Wicked After Midnight

January 7, 2016 by Dome'Loki 5 Comments

As a long time Pajiba reader (but never commentor, always lurker) I remember AlabamaPink’s charm and wit and was saddened by the world’s loss when she passed. As a parent of an 8 and 4 year old, my to read pile is ever increasing at a steady rate as I don’t seem to have the time to read that I once did. This year I have decided to read more, and justify all the books I buy, and figured the Cannonball Read would be a […]

This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no fooling around.

January 5, 2016 by PattyKates 9 Comments

We’re back, bitches. Now new and improved with the PattyKates tag instead of appearing mixed in with Katie’s solo reviews. And, to get us off to an interesting start, Patty has selected King by T.M. Frazier. Patty: King is the story of a homeless amnesiac named Doe (as in, Jane Doe) and the questionable love story between her and a criminal named King. We’ll get to the part where Katie messaged me with “What fresh hell is this?!” in a bit.       […]

An Amanda Quick Read

January 4, 2016 by Karen 1 Comment

Garden of Lies is a typical non-supernatural Amanda Quick novel. The romance and mystery combo fans have come to expect, though not the best Quick book out there. It made for a pleasant light read over the holiday weekend.
