This book made me stay up all night so now I’m blaming it like a petulant child.

I’m sure as fellow book readers you will understand what I mean when I say that sometimes books make you do bad things for your health and safety. I’ve had a cold since Monday and sleep is something I should be getting plenty of right now. I headed to bed on time for once last night, and settled in about 10:15 PM with my copy of this e-book, figuring I’d read for five minutes or so and then turn in. There aren’t many books these […]

‘Pride and Prejudice’ meets ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is actually a pretty apt comparison.

Pretty dang soon after I finished up reading Eon and Eona late last year, I learned that Alison Goodman had a new YA fantasy series about to start up. Since her first series was complicated and interesting and took lots of risks (even if they didn’t always work), I was already intrigued by the promise of a new series from her, but when I saw her refer to it as “Pride and Prejudice meets Buffy in English high society”, I pretty much needed to read […]

Gotta love a fake engagement plot.

After I mentioned that my library didn’t have this book, the lovely Malin sent it to me, along with books 2-4 in the series. I tried a little bit to resist reading this because I have so many other books I should be reading, but I made it barely to noon the next day before I caved. Basically, this book was fun. Malin is the best. The Duke and I is the first book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series, which follows the immense Bridgerton clan, […]

Alexia flies in a dirigible and attends a mummy-unwrapping party, which was apparently a thing.

Not as good as the first one, but still pretty great. I’m loving the way she’s building the world out through new characters and concepts. I’m super mad at a certain character right now, though. It was inevitable that I wasn’t going to like this one as much as the first, because I just have this thing about reading initial romances. It was enjoyable reading about Alexia and Lord Maccon’s married relationship here, but it wasn’t as purely *fun* as their courtship in book one. […]

Swoon Swoon Swoon

After two good, but grim murder books in a row, I need something lighter and this was the perfect pick. If you want to read something that will make you happy, this is that book. I didn’t think of it until after, but if you like Rainbow Rowell’s books, you’ll probably like Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Although it’s a young adult novel, it’s not dumbed down and the love story will make you swoon just as much as Fangirl or Carry On. Simon […]
