Mr. Serial Killer Comes to Washington

January 23, 2017 by Classic 2 Comments

I read this for Romance Book Bingo 2017: Headless Woman square. I vaguely recall reading this book when I was a teenager. I re-read it because I was totally light on details. I think I ended up getting bored with it and never finishing it though. If the book didn’t have a cover with a woman half out of a dress with Fabio and his flowing mane of hair I tended to not sneak those from my mom. Sacred Sins is a pretty good procedural […]

A solid romance classic

January 20, 2017 by WistfulCynic 1 Comment

Candace Camp is an author that I used to read when I was a teenager, nicking books from my mom’s special cupboard. I have vague but positive memories of her work, so when I saw that some of the books she published in the 80s were out for Kindle, I thought I’d give one a try. This book was originally published in 1984, and what struck me in particular was how much of a statement it made on the subject of privilege, something that I […]

Holly or TSTL Heroine

January 19, 2017 by Classic 16 Comments

Please note that I gave this book half a star and rounded it up to 1 star for the purpose of this review. So I live blogged this book yesterday on Booklikes. I am so glad that those who followed me got to read along to what a completely messed up romance book this was. I read this for Romance Book Bingo 2017, the Too Stupid to Live (TSTL) square. I can honestly say this may be a romance first for me to also find […]

The Princess Bride with Shapeshifters

January 19, 2017 by Classic 6 Comments

This is such a weird book and I loved it. There were some plot holes here and there which is the only reason why I am giving this 4 stars. This is an alternate story to Lady Jane and here is some information for you people out there who don’t know who Lady Jane Grey is. Lady Jane Grey (1536/1537 – 12 February 1554), also known as Lady Jane Dudley or the Nine-Day Queen, was an English noblewoman and de facto monarch of England and Ireland from 10 […]

This book might get me fired today…..

January 16, 2017 by kella 3 Comments

I fell for it.  Even after reading all the 4 and 5 star reviews of this book, I still got sucked in and couldn’t put it down until I finished it at 2:30am.  Currently I’m fighting the exhaustion that may cause me to fall asleep at my desk and lose my job.  Thanks a lot, Kulti. This is the first book I bought based solely on CBR reviews, and you guys do not disappoint with your recommendations. I won’t dive too deep into a plot […]

An Unclear Circus Farewell

January 16, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

I have to admit, the timing here is almost ironic. I finish this book just when Ringling Brothers announces their closure. Anyways, Night Circus has a lot going for it. An interesting premise, mystery, magic, and a great cast of characters in an intriguing setting. The language is also unusually detailed, which matches well with the mysterious artsy tone. I should have loved this, but I only liked it. I had 3 main problems with Night Circus. First and foremost, I hate present tense narrative, […]
