Old movies and Settlers of Catan

January 2, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 11 Comments

My CBR holiday gift exchange package arrived at just the right time when Alex, Approximately was exactly what I was in the mood to read. A young adult romance with emotions running high, life lessons, and swoony romance was just the thing to get me out of my post-Christmas funk. Essentially, this book is a modern, young adult take on The Shop Around the Corner story, but different enough that it doesn’t feel like a perfect retelling. There were little nods to its origin, but […]

Delightful debut romance, will be published in January. Me and Roxane Gay say ’tis good.

NB: I was sent an advanced reader’s copy by the publisher but it has not affected the content of my review. So joke’s on the publisher for this one because I was totally going to buy this book anyway, on release day even, but now I don’t have to! Free book!! You guys lost my $8 or whatever!! Just kidding, I will probably still buy it. It was good! So the premise here is that Alexa and Drew meet by chance in an elevator when […]

“He couldn’t be serious and stern with a man who had ducklings in his hair.”

I am basically trash for this author now. I have pre-ordered her m/f Regency romance that is out in April, so hopefully she’s just as good on that as she is with m/m. Fair warning, the next book in this series isn’t out until July and that is 1,000 years away. Also, this cover isn’t that bad (characters are way overdressed, and one should def be dressed like a vicar because come on, but it’s not ugly), and neither are the last two in her first series, […]

I seriously can’t decide which book in this trilogy is my favorite. I love them all.

I’m so into this author right now, and I’m so upset she has only published three books so far. I want her next book right frickin now. (Out in two weeks, already pre-ordered.) This is the last book in the Turner series, and it’s just as good as the first two. We met our heroes last book. Julian Medlock is the brother of Eleanor Standish, Lawrence’s science friend, and Lord Courtenay his son’s uncle. Courtenay is the titular rake, an infamous scapegrace who has spent […]

Cat Sebastian is now on my autobuy list.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

(FYI as of posting this review, this book is currently $1.99 on Kindle.) I’ve only read two books by this author, but she’s already on my auto-buy list. Traditionally published LGBTQIA historical romance novels are hard enough to come by (like, I don’t actually think I’ve ever seen one before??), but so far both of the books I’ve read by Cat Sebastian have been some of the best romance novels I’ve read, period. They’ve both had everything I look for in a romance novel: interesting […]

Who knew buying a small town on eBay would lead to finding your purpose in life

I had the fortune of visiting The Ripped Bodice to see Beverly Jenkins speak about her new historical romance novel, Breathless. After the event, I was kindly invited to join the LA chapter of Mocha Girls Read book club. I’m so thankful Ms. Jenkins and my favorite bookstore introduced me to a lovely book club group! Having an in-person book club kept up my motivation to read more books to review for Cannonball Read. 🙂 Bring on the Blessings by Beverly Jenkins was the February selection and much needed palette cleanser […]
