Get your D&D on without D&D

Legends & Lattes V01: A Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes by Travis Baldree

Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins: Volume III by Jody Houser

September 1, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

If you are looking for a couple of books that allow you to get your D&D love on, but are not D&D, there are two books (well one book and one series) that can work. The first, is a novel that has been getting much attention. And I understand why Legends & Lattes V01 is a hit. Travis Baldree made a story that captures the elements of fantasy, humor and romance in a package that allows it to be accessible to non-readers and readers of […]

Her grin was tiny but evil. Adorably evil, if that was a thing.

Role Playing by Cathy Yardley

February 7, 2023 by Emmalita 1 Comment

I liked Role Playing so much! The main characters are only a few years younger than I am, and more of this, please! I am very sad to say that this isn’t out until July 1. You should put it on your Summer TBR, because it is excellent. Maggie and Aiden’s relationship is inadvertently driven by two mother/son relationships. Maggie makes an effort to be more social as part of a pact with her son, who is a freshman in college. She is worried that […]

All Aboard for Part Two

The Adventure Zone: Murder on the Rockport Limited! by Clint McElroy

August 26, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Adventure Zone: Murder on the Rockport Limited! is still written by the McElroy’s (Clint, Griffin, Justin and Travis) and still amusing. The bad puns are bad and the innuendos even worse. This time, the story is a smidgen predictable (after all the three main characters return from book one, here in book two). You know that Merle, Magnus and Taako will screw around, goof up, accidentally get a magic spell or two right, drink booze (occasionally tea), play their role-playing game, interrupted by the DM […]

Rat Queens; A Glorious Perversion of a Book

January 23, 2015 by tillie 2 Comments

Holy gorram gosh-darnit. Oh boy. This was glorious. Heavenly, sexy, badass, emotional glory. Kick-ass and smart and I’m gonna use the word sexy again, like designers use it in that annoying way to objectify an already object existing as an object. Rat Queens is good. Admittedly, I did not think Rat Queens was something I would enjoy – it was only after a trusted recommendation that I gave it a second look. Even then the title “Sass and Sorcery” seemed crude and try-hard. Furthermore a […]
