Runaway bride and out of work guitarist

June 28, 2016 by Malin 2 Comments

Lydia Green is sent a video of her fiancee making out (and more) with his best friend/best man shortly before she’s supposed to walk down the isle. Utterly humiliated, she leaves her phone on the bed and does the only thing she can think of, run away. Even in full bridal gear, she manages to hoist herself over the very tall fence at the back of the property and climbs in the open window of the house next door. Fairly banged up and utterly devastated, […]

Another bearded hero, anyone?

March 14, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 9 Comments

Deep is the fourth (final? Probably not?) book in the Stage Dive series, a light and entertaining collection of contemporary rock star romances by Kylie Scott. My favorite is the second, Play, and that’s just because each book in the series features a different hero archetype and I liked him the best. YMMV. Ben, the hero in Deep, is a reformed hipster manchild who accidentally knocks up the heroine, Liz, during a one night stand. Though he promises to be there for her, his definition […]

Rock stars are frequently the rakes of contemporary romance

October 25, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars This is the third book in the Rock Kiss series, but it can easily be read without any previous knowledge of the other books or characters. Noah St. John is the guitarist in world famous rock band Schoolboy Choir. Due to some really dark shit in his past, he’s incredibly messed up and has tremendous difficulties trusting or connecting to people. He doesn’t really feel comfortable around anyone but the other guys in the band, who he’s known since he was a kid […]

The tech millionaire and the secretary this is not

April 29, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

Katie Clark went with her boyfriend when he wanted to move to Alaska and worked to save up for her own college education while putting him through college. Knowing that her family weren’t huge fans, she didn’t tell them that she actually got married while they were there. By the time it was Katie’s turn to go to college, it was too late. Her husband had emptied their joint savings account, leaving her a note saying he was off to find himself, hiking in Nepal. […]

If only all trouble came in such attractive packages

April 29, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

Disclaimer! I was given a free copy of this through NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review. Single mother and entertainment lawyer Ellen Callahan just wants to live a quiet life, which is not as easy after her twin brother, an international pop superstar, fell in love with and was photographed spending time with her pregnant next-door neighbour. Now she keeps having to throw paparazzi off her lawn, which is vexing, to be sure, but it’s not like she needs a bodyguard. Her […]

Thank you, Mr. Pratchett, for all the joy you have brought me

April 5, 2015 by Malin 3 Comments

Susan Sto Helit goes to a boarding school, and for the lessons she’s less interested in, she has a tendency to fade into the woodwork – literally. Susan has the ability to fade away, should she so wish it. Turns out, this is because her grandfather is none other than Death, and when he goes missing, Susan, as his closest relative, is required to take over his duties for a while. Being deeply pragmatic and rational, thanks to her first rate education, it takes Susan […]
