I Just Can’t Quit This Series

Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith

September 5, 2022 by Wanderlustful 3 Comments

I know, I know, I KNOW. My once-beloved J.K. Rowling, writing here under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith, has fallen off the deep end, writing some despicable things about transgender people. Sigh. Does it make it better that I didn’t buy this, just borrowed it from the library? I’m still not sure, and I’m not sure about where the line is between art/the artist, especially with a book like this one where a cross-dressing villain is featured… Because I don’t have any great answers, or new […]

This will be a short review considering the length of the book

Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith

I started reading this series during the early days of the pandemic, and it’s proven to be satisfying, escapist fun for me. I stumbled upon this latest entry in one of my local Little Free Libraries, so I decided to read it before CBR BINGO hits, because at 927 pages, there’s no way I was going to let it eat up prime BINGO scoring time. That said, I’m going to write this review in list form of likes and dislikes. Dislikes: 927 pages. There is […]

Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith

This is the second time I’ve read this book. I’m a big fan of the Cormoran Strike novels, and the fifth one is just as enjoyable as the first. However, this is first JK Rowling novel I’ve read since she came out as TERF (Trans-Exclusive Radical Feminist), and I have mixed feelings. I think this is the last time I’ll read Rowling’s new works as I don’t believe in economically supporting people who do that much harm to vulnerable populations. However, I cannot deny that […]

Just what I needed to cure the pandemic blues

The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

July 27, 2020 by KimMiE" Leave a Comment

CBR12 BINGO: Book Club Under normal circumstances, I’d be spending a good chunk of my Saturdays volunteering at the zoo. Obviously, that isn’t happening right now, because pandemic. One consequence of that is I haven’t been able to see much of the other volunteers that I frequently spend my Saturdays with, except for a couple of Zoom meetings. I made a casual suggestion that we could form a book club; one person got excited and ran with it, and we ended up with a small […]

Nevertheless

The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith

July 9, 2020 by Jake Leave a Comment

cn. transphobia Let’s get a few things out of the way real quick: JK Rowling is a TERF. And trans women are women. I checked this one out of the library before Rowling went on her recent bigotry spree on Twitter. She’s always held problematic views regarding transfolk but in recent weeks, she’s decided to just let her phobic flag fly. She also, perhaps not coincidentally, signed the infamous Harpers letter with other popular writers and academics that tut tutted “cancel culture”, the perpetual fear of […]

Pretending you’re OK when you aren’t isn’t strength

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith

January 24, 2020 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Lethal White (2018) is the fourth Cormoran Strike mystery novel by Robert Galbraith a/k/a J.K. Rowling. I was well into the series and curious about the characters, so I knew I would have to get Lethal White. However, part of me didn’t want to read this book. I was disturbed by Rowling’s recent transgender comments, and I was partly annoyed that the book was so long (656 pages) when I have so much other stuff to do. The main characters are what keep me coming back. They […]
