Careening over the cliff, crashing into the ocean, and exploding on impact.

The Favorites by Layne Fargo

They didn’t simply want us to be lovers. They wanted us to be so in love, we’d burn the whole world down to be together. ― Layne fargo, The Favorites I have a backlog of reviews to write, but it took a truly bonkers story to yank me out of my holding pattern, tear open my window, and scream into the void. The Favorites is that story. This book has everything. Buckets of blood? Check. Violently gory injuries with ice skates? Check. Skating partners who […]

Dated and hard to stomach (DNF)

Rivals by Jilly Cooper

November 30, 2024 by ElCicco 1 Comment

This novel from the 1980s was recently turned into a series on Disney+ of all places. I watched it because it has a bunch of actors I really like in it, including David Tennant and Aiden Turner (who is sporting a ridiculous Super Mario mustache). If you miss the 1980s and enjoy adult, “Dallas” style TV, you should check it out. These take way too long to come out and they are way too short give me the next one nowwww. Seriously, it’s so frustrating. I just binge re-read the first three volumes as a refresher, and then went straight into this one, and it took me all of an hour, and then it was done, and now I have to wait. And I’ve been trained to wait since I was a wee-reader, but for some reason, waiting for this series is something that is very […]

You can always learn something, even amid explosion sound effects

Rivals! Frienemies Who Changed the World by Scott McCormick

July 21, 2019 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

They say this is for ages 8 and up, and the sound effects and voices help with that, but there really is a lot of information in this! After finishing my other Audible Original for the month of July, The Grown-Up Guide to Dinosaurs, I thought I was pretty caught up on my dino knowledge.  Turns out, nope! That didn’t even mention anything (that I remember) that was featured in this section!  Maybe it was due to the fact that that one was made in […]
