A Cozy Mystery in a Luxury Retirement Community

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

September 20, 2021 by jomidi 2 Comments

I have been on a long streak of not very good books.  Which is why I have not posted a review in ages.  Well, the streak is broken. The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is a wonderful cozy mystery set in a luxury retirement community.  If his name sounds familiar, that is because Osman is a mainstay on many of the British Comedy Game Shows like Taskmaster and Would I Lie To You.  Lucky for us, it turns out he can write along with […]

Murder Makes Growing Old Fun

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

June 28, 2021 by esmemoria 1 Comment

Another Cannonballer recently read The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman (review here), and it sounded like my kind of frothy mystery mixed with real characters. The Thursday Murder Club is made up of residents of a senior living community in England. The four club members are distinctly drawn and altogether delightful. Osman makes them three dimensional, despite the jolly tone, and they each have heartbreaks of one or another. One of the things I loved about the book is how fun it made senior […]

“The sun is up, the skies are blue, and murder is in the air.”

The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club, #1) by Richard Osman

This really hit the spot, and it had a lot more emotional depth than I was expecting from it! I think I was expecting something more on the cozy mystery side of things, something lightweight, and it did have a bit of that feel to it as well. But this also had a larger scope than a cozy mystery, way more characters, and a lot more focus on uncozy things, sad and emotional things—like accepting death and dying, the realities of getting older, dealing with […]

Down With OAP

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

October 9, 2020 by jeverett15 5 Comments

Richard Osman is omnipresent on British TV as a host of one quiz show and the co-host of another. He is also a frequent guest on comedy panel shows. He’s always impressed me with his quick wit and intellect, so when I heard he had written a novel, and not just a novel but a runaway bestseller in the UK, I was intrigued enough to purchase it. The premise is not one that would normally appeal to me. The titular club is a quartet of […]
