Another Outing for the Thursday Murder Club

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

February 28, 2023 by krisbholland Leave a Comment

After reading Thursday Murder Club last year, I was immediately craving more. Based in the English countryside, the Thursday Murder Club centers around a group of elderly residents in a senior living community. Each week the members of the club meet to discuss old, unsolved crimes. In the first novel, they become entwined with a real (and current) murder investigation making friends with the police and several unsavory characters along the way. In the second novel in the series, The Man Who Died Twice, the team returns to […]

Number Three With a Bullet

The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman

February 23, 2023 by jeverett15 Leave a Comment

The third entry in Richard Osman’s phenomenally successful Thursday Murder Club series follows the arc of most series. The stakes continually get higher, new characters are introduced, and the plots get more and more complicated. For now, though, the grace of Osman’s plotting and the charm of his characters can keep the reader invested. Once again, the elderly members of the Thursday Murder Club insert themselves into a murder investigation, utilizing their wisdom and experience while also cleverly subverting people’s lowered expectations of senior citizens. […]

More Murders or Not and some Thursday Club hook-ups and hang-ups

The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman

February 19, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I missed episode two of the Thursday Murder Club, but I don’t think it caused me too much issue with following The Bullet That Missed (book 3). Same general gang but it seems like most everyone who was single in book 1 is pairing off in book 3, and nearly everyone has some big secret they don’t tell the others. I’ve also noticed there seems to be this emphasis on a lower level bad guy/gal turning good, or at least helpful. IT’s the secret-keeping that […]

Give Me All the Septuagenarians Solving Murders Books, NOW!!

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

February 16, 2023 by Melina Leave a Comment

The thing about me is that my entire personality has been pretty much shaped by the 80’s tv shows that I preferred as a child, and those shows were Murder She Wrote and Columbo.  I can be found attempting to chase those highs I felt watching them as a kid (and now in blurry reruns as an adult) by watching the terrible (yet highly watchable) Hallmark Mysteries channel.  The glaring difference though with the murder shows and movies on that channel is that the sleuths […]

Continuing The Story

The Bullet That Missed: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery by Richard Osman

February 9, 2023 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Those who enjoy a clever, complicated mystery. In a nutshell: Those diamonds from the last book? Someone else wants them back. Also, the group looks into the ten-year-old unsolved murder of a journalist. Worth quoting: N/A (Audio book) Why I chose it: I enjoy the series. What it left me feeling: Pleased Review: Another winner from author Osman. I was intrigued, guessed a little bit but not the rest, and found that any twists made absolute sense and were not out of left […]

Whenever Diamonds Are Involved, Someone Probably Will Die

The Man Who Died Twice: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery by Richard Osman

February 3, 2023 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Those who enjoyed the first book. In a nutshell: Elizabeth’s ex-husband — also a former spy — is in a safe house, accused of having stolen diamonds from a criminal he’s investigating. Then, he and his handler are killed, and the diamonds are nowhere to be found. Also, Ibrahim has been mugged. Worth quoting: N/A (Audio book) Why I chose it: I loved the first one. What it left me feeling: Surprised. Review: So, you don’t NEED to have read the first book […]
